Dr. Susan Shively, MD

I had been through 4 doctors before seeing Dr. Shively. I came to her with my head in my hands, telling her I had a conundrum. She listened and very naturally said, “this is not a conundrum.” I needed to hear that and systematically, step by step, we embarked on a journey to change my life. She is empathetic and that is hard to come by in this ever changing me-oriented society. I got lucky to have been referred to her by the first doctor who would have helped me then had I been ready to receive treatment. Dr. Shively does not over-speak. She waits for you to make your statements. I can’t say she is magic but she is. I can’t say she guides you but she does. I can’t say she does the work because you have to but she works. Most of all, she cares and watches carefully so her patients are given the strength, courage, validation and direction needed. Her book may be full but if you are lucky to see get in, stay in it for as long as necessary. Your life will change. Mine did… and I am still in treatment but the changes were dramatic and quick. It’s been 6 months going on 7 and while my “new” life is not always comfortable because it’s so new- a healthier me has emerged and the gas lighting is gone. I believe now in me and my insight. That is worth every hour and every penny of therapy. Only Dr. Shively was able to make a difference and maybe I too was ready but my bet is on her.

I was treated by this doctor awhile ago and in the case of this type of doctor that makes the evaluation more valuable (IMO). She helped me to resolve the serious issues that I had although it was far from easy for both of us. She persisted though and I did as well. I never thought I could get to the place I am but I have. It seemed to be an insurmountable project so to speak. How can a rating of excellent say enough about a person who helped change a life so significantly? It really can't but it is the only measure available. If you are willing to work to achieve change consider yourself truly fortunate if this doctor is available.
