Dr. Susan G Tierney, DDS

Meet Dr. Tierney
Dr. Susan Gail Tierney has been in the exclusive practice of orthodontics and has been a member of the American Association of Orthodontists since 1987. Prior to receiving her orthodontic specialty degree from New York University College of Dentistry she practiced General and Family Dentistry. This unique beginning to her orthodontic career enables her to understand and interface with the patient and their family dentist for a comprehensive perspective on the patient’s dentistry, occlusion, cosmetic demands and pre-implant requirements.
Dr. Tierney earned her doctor of dental surgery degree (D.D.S.) from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, D.C. Upon completion of her degree, Dr. Tierney practiced general family and cosmetic dentistry in private practice in New York, New York. Dr. Tierney is presently an Associate Clinical Professor at NYU School of Dentistry in the Department of Post Graduate Orthodontics. She supervises the post-graduate …dentists as they obtain their training and degrees in orthodontics. She was also on the teaching staff and an attending dentist at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York in the Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, and was on the faculty at New York University College of Dentistry in the Department of Family Practice.
In 1985 Dr. Tierney began a full time residency program in the Postgraduate Division at New York University College of Dentistry. She completed the program in 1987 and received a Certificate in the Specialty of Orthodontics. During her residency she developed a special interest in Craniofacial Orthopedics for Syndrome patients, and Cleft Palate Therapy. Dr Tierney did research under Dr. Barry Grayson, Dr. Joseph McCarthy and Dr. Court Cutting in The Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University Medical Center.
Currently, Dr. Tierney is an attending orthodontist focusing on orthodontics for the Reconstructive and Craniofacial patients at The Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at NYU Medical Center. Her private practice is limited to orthodontics, and she was voted to The Best Dentists in North America in 2005. Dr. Tierney has been a certified Invisalign provider since 1999 and is currently an Invisalign Premier Provider (top 5% Invisalign Provider in the United States). She also lectures regularly to professional orthodontic organizations and dental hygienists in the greater New York and Mid-Atlantic regions.
