Dr. Susan James Ward, MD

I had hoped that Dr. Ward was just having a bad day when I visited her. I was so stunned by her actions that I didn't even think to ask the office staff if she was always like that. The office staff/clinicians were fabulous by the way. Dr. Ward was exactly like the other 3 reviews have already noted. The WORST bedside manner I've ever experienced with a doctor and I have 5 children. I am thankful that I didn't have cancer. She spent all of 30 seconds telling me that it was nothing and follow up with my primary care doctor. She sounded annoyed and mad. I had to ask the other girls a few questions to clarify my health. I am shocked that she has a job and can continue to treat patients this way. It is unfortunate.

Dr. Ward read a repeat mammo and breast ultrasound for me. I think she is extremely qualified, but not great on the bedside manner. I would have appreciated a little more time with me since a recall for a breast exam is scary and nerve wracking. The good news was delivered without emotion and quickly.

Absolutely the most appalling experience with a medical professional I've ever had. Could not answer any questions regarding my mammogram. Did not know where the questionable spot was, nor was willing to show me the image...she made the tech show me, and was annoyed that I actually asked to see what was going on in my body. Atrocious bedside manner, and seemed completely flippant, and unaware of anything other than the standard propcal for notifying a patient that they need a biopsy. * reason for poor rating on promtness was a machine was down. Most of The staff at Renown Breast Health is very good.

Renown missed a breast in 2010 & 2011. When a different imaging group did my mammogram in 2012 they found it and said it was visible in the previous years. Upon asking Dr. Ward how this was missed she first told me that "I reviewed them (mammograms) and was able to see this in 2009" I asked her why it was not mentioned in the report- she said "it would have been considered benign and stable". I asked her how they would know it would be stable and her reply was "from previous mammograms". Only I hadn't ever HAD a previous scan! Then she said that not every little thing is reported. I get that, but this was a finding of significance and should have been reported. This turned out to be a fibroadenoma with atypical lobular hyperplasia and flat epithelial atypia. Although the radioligist cannot obviously see the pathology, a fibroadenoma is significant and should always be reported. It is the patient's right to have that knowledge and decide what to do with it. It is obvious to… me that they missed it and won't admit to it, yet saying they saw it and didn't report it is even worse.
