Dr. Susanna Gaikazian, MD

rude and evil woman who loves to see her patient suffers. Has awful bedside manner and makes you wait forever.

I was referred to Dr. Gaikazian for a possible blood cancer issue. Knowing I was anxious, she called me promptly with the test results she had ordered. When meeting with her about a bone scan result, she consulted with an orthopedic oncologist while I was in her office to get their opinion on follow-up, which I greatly appreciated. She is very personable, straightforward and compassionate. She eased my anxiety and I would highly recommend her!

Dr. Gaikazian diagnosed my husband with multiple myeloma (a blood plasma cancer) and she has been his primary hematologist-oncologist for the last 5 months. She is thorough, knowledgeable, upbeat, and very compassionate. My husband's case was unusual (he did not fit neatly into the standard diagnostic categories) and Dr. G was candid about the challenges this caused. She was very comfortable with us seeking a second opinion from Karmanos Cancer Dr. Jeffrey Zonder, and even prepared a detailed consult letter for him. (He agreed with her treatment plan!) Dr. Gaikazian is comfortable with patient (and caregiver) questions, and she treats the whole person (not just the cancer). For example, one of the standard oral chemo drugs often causes numbness in fingers and my husband plays the violin -- she paid enough attention to take this into consideration by prescribing a different combination of chemo so as not to cause this condition. Dr. G's staff are also a plus. Easy to make appointments;… good at communicating messages to Dr. G., and good at scheduling testing/medical procedures. She does not rush an appointment and takes the time to answer questions. The downside of this is that she runs late for appointments, and there is usually a significant wait time to see her. In my opinion, it is worth the wait.
