Dr. Sushma Jayaprakash Rai, MD

I was recently diagnosed with Narrow Angle Glaucoma that "suddenly" surfaced by a prominent eye center. I've been getting yearly checkups since my father had glaucoma. I was surprised by the diagnosis, especially when I asked for my medical records and saw that they had notes from my last year eye exam that indicated it coming on...but never said a word to me! I felt like one of many cogs in a wheel, so to speak, and just "another number" to them. I was scheduled for LPI surgery for both eyes with a highly rated surgeon, but it just didn't "feel right", and I was apprehensive about getting both eyes done at the same time and having to use a taxi, so I cancelled it. I discovered Dr Rie who operates only one mile from my house, and what a difference! She recommended only one eye at a time, and her calm manner and factual information was what I needed. She explained that having a family history of glaucoma, and I have small eyes, have presbyopia, and am a female pretty much… guarantees me to have NA glaucoma....who knew?? The other center never explained anything like that to me. I went in for my left eye first, and she explained every step and ...poof! It was over in SECONDS! I waited in the lobby for 30 minutes for a pressure test, then was released to drive home. So I scheduled my right eye for several weeks later, and again it was a pleasant, quick and perfect experience. My eyes are very important to me as an artist, and I am resistant to having anything invasive done to my eyes, but Dr. Rie's rock solid calm manner and expertise is very reassuring -- I was not just "another number" to add to the company profits, as she is genuinely concerned and invested in each patient as a human being! Besides, she does not own the companies she works for -- she is a salaried Doctor employed by the companies who are owned by someone else! Dr. Rie is only one of 4 eye doctors in AZ uniquely qualified for her specialties! I am so glad that I found her and had faith in her abilities to do the best for my eyes.

Dr Rai did surgery on my left eye where she worked before coming to Maricopa Integrated Health. I have to say she was wonderful, she did the Tribeculectomy on my left eye. She took the time and assured me i would be fine, and guess what I am fine today. Thank you Dr Rai you are a an amazing surgeon.

May be she is a good doctor , but not a good business woman, as her company run away from paying their staff

When I first was told I have cataracts, I was very upset and wanted surgery right away Dr. Rai calm me down and said I came to the right doctor, she would take care of everything from deciding which lense to use, how I would feel, how long it would take to heal and of course the side effects. She did a perfect job on both surgeries, I do recommend her to my friends and my family. She gave me my sight back. I give all the thanks to Dr. Rai.Life is good.
