Dr. Svetlana Blitshteyn, MD

I second what another poster wrote, as I too literally went to a doctors appt after seeing this doctor for several years, only to find her office boarded up, no notice, no forwarding, took months and complaints to NYS to get my medical records. She is unethical and dangerous, and was denied access to Medicare coverage for patients, so insists on cash. I know what it means to be desperate but better to be desperate and alive than desperate and dead.

I was a patient of this woman. She abruptly left her practice, without notifying her patients, and later reopened, without notification to those patients left in the lurch, obviously still struggling with rare disorders. She is knowledgeable, but unethical. She does not take insurance. Clearly there have been problems of some kind and she may well be unable to substantiate her billings to organizations like Medicare which would preclude some of her treatments. This can leave patients in a very dangerous situation, as it did for me. I know what it means to be desperate, but being desperate can leave you dangerously vulnerable. There are many doctors who play "god" and claim to be the creme de la creme of experts. When there is no one to dispute their claims, it is easy to be an expert. Be careful. Her reputation is being glorified beyond her limitations.

My daughter and I have both seen Dr. Blitshteyn. She is kind and caring and gives you plenty of time to ask questions. We couldn't be happier!

Dr. Blitshteyn clearly knows her stuff about autonomic dysfunction and disorders. She's quite friendly. Having said that, because she's so high in demand (understandably) it's really hard to reach her. My local cardiologist attempted to call her about my Holter results, with no call back. According to my aunt who's also a physician, every doctor--or their secretary--whether having 10 seconds or a minute of availability should call a patient (or their doctors) back. Things do get busy, but expect the possibility as a patient of hers that you'll be doing a lot of your own work. You'll have to be extremely proactive. State laws vary medically, but it shouldn't necessarily matter. She writes very detailed notes, but many of my local doctors needed an actual script from her to complete testing. Notes, though detailed, weren't enough. As a result, I've pressed for some tests to be done for Dr. Blitshteyn, but some of the required testing is not yet finished. Just something to keep in… mind.

The doctor is the best neurologist in town and is also a nationally-recognized expert in autonomic disorders. That is why her patients come to see her from all over the country. We are truly grateful to have her as our neurologist!
