Dr. Swarnalatha Prasanna, MD

I started seeing Dr. Prasanna almost a year ago and it has been life changing. First she was the only doctor that returned my call out of the many that I called trying to schedule an appointment based on the recommendation of my primary care doctor. Our first appointment involved a lot of questions form her that were very open ended. I feel these questions were to hear me and not to speak for me or put words in my mouth. After approximately an hour session we were done and a follow up visit was scheduled. At our follow up appointment she provided her evaluation and what her recommendation was to address. However before prescribing any medication she requested an in depth physical to include blood work, ekg, and all sorts of other stuff that is Greek to me. She then requested that I schedule our next appointment once I had the test completed. After completing the requested test and returning with the results she reviewed to make sure that the cause of my problem was not a… health issues and that her diagnosis was correct. Once confirmed she prescribed two medications with very clear explanation of what they were, the effects they would have, and the pros and cons of the medication. I have been taking the medication as prescribed for almost a year now and my life has greatly improved. The issues that I had been experiencing thru my childhood and now into my 40's had greatly improved. My marriage, work, and social life have greatly improved thanks to Dr. Prasanna's help.

I was very depressed and made appointment withDr. Swarnalatha Prassanna, hoping that she could help me. On scheduled time I arrived at her office, but office doors were locked and there was dark inside, so I was waiting outside for approximately 35 minutes till she appeared. And she didn’t even apologize for being late. At my visit I told to Dr. Prassanna about tragic and unfortunate events what had happen in my life and my family and made me very sad and depressed. But instead of understanding me, Dr. Prassanna laughed about me and my feelings, adding that “it’s not a big deal in her culture”. Than she called my spouse in the office to tell him that she thinks I have “just paranoia and schizophrenia” and should take some pills she is going to prescribe to me to feel “happier”. It was so very humiliating! I walked out of her office and broke down crying... Needless to say that after visiting her I felt so much worse and immediately made an appointment with different psychiatrist who… very carefully listened me and diagnosed me with severe depression... Please stay away from Dr. Swarnalatha Prassanna, she shouldn’t be allowed to practice psychiatry!

Does the best she can to waste your time and get a more lucrative diagnosis from you so she can make more money from the insurance company, which we pay for, those of us who pay for medical insurance.

Dr. Prasanna was extremely helpful through my darkest hours. She cared about getting down to the issues and gave me a safe environment to search my own mind and soul. She does NOT push meds but used them as an effective tool so my emotions could get regulated. Once accomplished, I came off of them and continued to see her. I'm healthy and happy because of her help!

First doctor in several years to really try to identify the root cause of my anxiety and start me on a path to mitigate it. She's very direct, which I appreciate.

Dr. Prasanna is an exceptional therapist. I have been a patient of hers for years and she has been extremely helpful in getting me to feel better. She is not my first therapist, but definitely my best.

Her background is more focused on the medical side than the psychological, and it's obvious. Dr. Prasanna is great at prescribing you the medicine you may need, but fails at giving you the advice you may need. It's good to have a doctor who can give you blunt and honest advice. This is your issue. Here is what you hould do to fix it. But she does not know how to do that. She'll look you up and down and make assumptions rather than observations. You seem like the kind of person who would do something like this, so stop doing whatever "this" is. Even a doctor should know that every person is unique and has unique problems. Expect a doctor who will talk at you and disregard what you say, focusing only on what she thinks than what she knows. Expect advice with no concrete steps. And expect appointments that can last for five to fifteen minutes -- however long she cares for it to go rather than how long it should be for the price and for whatever issues you need help with. Last… thing: Her secretaries are always terrible. Don't expect a follow up if you leave a message. And you're likely to see Dr. Prasanna be frustrated with them every single time you go to her office.
