Dr. Sylvia Marie Montoya, MD

This is the perfect small town clinic. They will work you in if you have an immediate need. Sometimes the work in wait is long, but if you have an appointment I've never waited longer than 15 min. Dr. Montoya is very caring. I see her for my regular yearly physicals and in between stuff (allergies and sinus infection and once a cyst on my back). She is gentle and kind with a lovely disposition. She has been very smart and spot on with anything I've had. Debbie the nurse is the best blood draw I've ever had. There's a nice personality to the whole office. It is a small village, and I always run into people in the waiting room I know (not a plus when you're sick), but that's not the doctors fault. I think if I had a serious disease or illness I would seek care from a specialist, but for everyday stuff Dr. Montoya is awesome.

My son was on a mission trip in Cloudcroft and started an excessive cough. His director took him to see Dr. Montoya. My son's oxygen level was at 69. Two years prior he had been flown to Albequerque and hospitalized for pneumonia on the same mission trip when his oxygen levels had dropped to 67. The doctor decided to try a breathing treatment before they elected to hospitalize him and it brought his levels back to 99. She gave my son some prescriptions and he was able to finish his mission trip. His director had nothing but praise for Dr. Montoya and her care of my son and I feel the same never having met her.

Dr. Montoya is one of the smartest M.D.s I have ever been to. She is extremely practical in her medical approach, and works with those on a tight budget. I have the highest respect for her.

I went to Dr. Montoya one time, and that was plenty. I had just found out I was pregnant about a month earlier. I was experiencing some pain that seemed like a bladder infection. I called my OB/GYN, and they said that since I was so far away (two hours), to go and see a family practitioner. I told Dr. Montoya of my symptoms, and they did a urine test. I did not have a bladder infection. Dr. Montoya asked why I thought I had a bladder infection, and I told her again of the symptoms I was having as well as the extremely light spotting I was having. (Sorry Guys!!) She asked if I was cramping and I said no. She then preceded to tell me that since I did not have a bladder infection I was most likely miscarrying. She said it is just part of life and I had better "just deal with it". She then walked out of the room. She returned a couple of minutes later with a prescription. She said it was for the bladder infection that she didn't think I had, but, if it made me feel better to… have a prescription there it was. She then said she thought it would be safe for the baby, but that that really didn't matter anymore. She then left again. When I got outside, I called my OB/GYN's nurse and told her what had happened. She asked if the Dr. had performed an exam. I told her no. She asked how much bleeding was occurring, and I told her it was extremely light, and only off and on. She was furious with the so-called "Dr.". I did not have a miscarriage, and, instead, had a healthy baby boy. I am so glad for the turn of events, but wish I had never gone in to see "Dr." Montoya. On another note, her nurse caught my father-in-law's diabetes. But, when he went in to see Dr. Montoya, her advice to living with diabetes was don't eat mashed potatoes with gravy or white bread. Nice!
