Judgmental, rude, lacks compassion and unprofessional.

I love her! I’ve never seen a psychiatrist before but she takes the necessary measures to make sure I’m okay and recommended me to a partial program for therapy along with medication, etc. very straight to the point with important things and I love her as my doctor! Very good!

Upon reading through a few of these already written reviews, i have come to the conclusion that i myself had a similar experience. I was in very much need of help. My mental health was quickly declining. It was effecting me psychically, my family, my friends, and even being able to work or hold a job. Dr. Benoff was very much aware i had been off any and all meds for quiet a while. Needless to say, i was coming to see her for help to better my mood and help me diagnosis and understand my condition(s). I had become agoraphobic. She was also very aware of this. Our first appointment, i left very confused. She came off extremely judgmental. She would cut me off when i was trying to answer her questions. Almost as if she was rushing me for some old reason. Then her computer crashed. Her phone was also not working in the office. She was upset she had to write down things on sticky notes and she didn't even write anything down. She was constantly obsessing over her non working computer… and phone during our first meeting. Her mood changed and she became annoyed. After obsessing over her non working office equipment for a half hour. She concluded our meeting, not wanting a follow up with me but wanted me to go to a out patient problem. She then rushed me out of her office. How could i go to a program of such nature if i had been so ill i couldn't even leave my house. I believe in second chances. Our first meeting, I could have caught her on a bad day. So i thought. I was very wrong. Not only was she very surprised I made a follow up appointment with her but she was very harsh speaking and again rushing everything. I strongly believe she misdiagnosed me. Again, she was pushing me to go to this out patient program. I felt as if she just wanted me out of there. She made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwanted. As if i was a annoyance to her. She didn't care about treating me or had any sympathy in helping me. Isn't that what her professional assists in! Whether shes sexists, racists, ignorant, bias, she only cares about the money. She has no right to treat her patients as such! To pick and force out those who you do not want to treat is horribly wrong. That is why she has such a low rating. Shes not in this practice to help people. Shes only in it for the money. This is someone who truly does not love their job! I left both times feeling even more hopeless. Trying to get in with any psychiatrist takes a month or more. I defiantly felt that my time was wasted and her pockets were paid pretty good. I wish there was a 0 star rating!

After over 30 years of treatment, I knew more about my therapist than she knew about me... and every M.D. (psychiatrists, all) I encountered prescribed medication after medication (a few that had severe/dire side effects for me, personally). Not one of them was able to address my primary problem - PTSD - I was on medications that were geared toward everything but (even anti-psychotics!). I just blindly followed the treatment offered to me because I was very good at hiding my traumatic history from everyone, including myself. Dr. Talya Benoff changed all of that. Yes, she recommended the Partial Program at RIH, as other reviewers have mentioned. And it was the best recommendation I have ever had from the myriad doctors and/or therapists I have encountered all these years. Now, two years later, I am being prescribed fewer medications, with significantly better outcomes (turns out that I am not psychotic). Dr. Benoff has been a major reason I now have a better quality of life. … Thank you, Dr. Benoff.

I saw her yesterday for the first time and left feeling way more depressed than I was before. She was more interested in typing on her computer than actually listening to me and tried to boil down my 20+ years of psychiatric history to a thing that neither me nor my psychologist thinks is an issue nor is something I should focus on. Far, far too clinical and cold in her approach and unconcerned with other people's opinions.

I saw this doctor a few times to give her a chance, but she was more worried about if she prescribed what I had been taking for 13 years that SHE would get a letter from the insurance company or medical reviewers questioning her. She is not only young but lacks empathy and has absolutely zero interest in getting to know a patient, at least from my experience. The questions she asked were all from the computer with which she kept interacting. I did not feel listened to, certainly not heard. I went to her at a particularly difficult time in terms of my medical and mental health in addition to major life changes, but she did not show interest in who I was or what was happening in my life. Each visit was very short with wasted time reviewing the same questions I had answered previously. I got absolutely no help from her. She is supposedly a psychiatrist there to help people with mental health issues. I left feeling like she was petty and immature, discouraged since I knew I couldn't… connect with her and get help I needed. She is remote and very perfunctory in her job, and that's all it is to her, a job where she fails miserably at being a caring human. I was deeply disappointed after waiting 6 weeks to get a new patient visit with her. In her list of conditions she treats as specialties, she lists every one of my mental health issues yet failed to address even one of them even though they were in an acute phase. She wanted me to go to a day treatment program at RI Hospital where I had a bad experience previously and was staffed mostly by psychology students. After I told her about my poor rating for that day program, she pushed it even further and said it had changed and didn't seem to want to work with me at all but preferred to have others handle it. What exactly is she there for?

BEWARE!!!! This individual is a young, inexperienced "Dr" who neither listened to me nor offered any substantive way of approaching my underlying issues. When I told her I had PTSD, she never asked about the traumas which I had been through; I instead told her, because she didn't ask. When I told her I had suffered through decades of agorphobia with panic, she didn't pursue how this came about or how I was now; instead, I told her because she didn't ask. And this is not even covering the other issues I encountered with her....it goes on similarly to that previously mentioned. I was switching psychiatrists because I had traumatically lost my own, who had overseen all of my medications for over 10 years. I have been on the same medications for nearly 20 years, through three psychiatrists after three moves to different states, and none of them has ever not understood, after discussing my history and their uses, why I take the medications I do, nor have they ever refused to… prescribe any, as Benoff did. I asked three times how we could move forward in a way in which she would feel more comfortable. She suggested that I do outpatient therapy at RI Hospital because they were highly qualified to deal with medication adjustments. When I explained that I had started a new job, was still under a probationary period, and that I could not spend several hours a day there for a week (which is what she told me was required), she would not budge on that I needed to be under someone else's care. Given recent traumatic loss of the person who had been monitoring my meds for over 10 years and needed someone who could step in to a situation that had been well established, I left without any prescriptions and no realistic advice on how I might find someone to monitor and possibly adjust my meds, other than her suggestion to find someone else with better qualifications at RI Hospital. She simply had no answer for working through what made her uncomfortable. I waited over three months for this appointment, and I am now back to finding someone who can prescribe meds in the immediacy, which I was told by the RI Health Department might have to be an emergency room. She is completely unqualified (and essentially admitted that herself) and I could never in good faith recommend her to anyone, whether they were in dire circumstances or not....and especially if they suffer from immediate and serious issues for which a seasoned professional is required.

Have no idea who these 2 people were that gave this girl a 5 star rating. Very young, no experience and does not help at all. She needs another 20 years to work on her MD status. Do not believe she is even a psychiatrist. According to RI doctors. In HEALTHGRADES.com someone also gave her a one star. She has no background to speak of. Don't waste your time on this one. Find a real psychiatrist.
