Meet Sedona Dentist, Dr. Tamara Bill Fernandes

Dr.Tamara Bill Fernandes, known in the practice as “Dr Tamara”, joined Sedona Dental Arts at the end of July 2009 after graduating from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. University of the Pacific School of Dentistry is one of the most highly regarded dental schools in the US. Every year, over 3000 students apply for 140 spots.
She earned numerous awards at Pacific including the Dental Anatomy Award for Excellence in Esthetics and the Academy of General Dentistry Award for greatest interest, knowledge and proficiency in general dentistry.
While receiving her formal dental education from the faculty at the dental school, Dr. Tamara was mentored by her dad during weekly, and sometimes daily, phone conversations about dental techniques, materials, approaches and technologies. While “Dr. Dad” would share information …based on experience and his extensive continuing education courses, he always sought from Tamara the recommendations of the dental school faculty. This collaborative approach continues in the dental practice today.
Dr. Tamara is a 2001 valedictorian graduate of Sedona Red Rock High School where she held offices in the Student Council and the Key Club. She also was a top golfer attaining a handicap of 5.6 when at her peak and played soccer and basketball. She also competed vocally; singing in all-regional and all-state choirs, all-state vocal jazz ensemble, and Arizona National Association of Singing competitions. She received singing and leadership awards while attending NAU Summer Music Camp for many years.
She is a cum laude with honors graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in biology. At the University of Arizona, she was a member and director of an a-cappella vocal jazz group and graduated from the Blue Chip Leadership Program.

My experience with Dr. Tamara and Sedona Dental Arts has been a TOTALLY positive one right from my initial telephone contact with Jennette when I asked for information about the practice. As I walked through the door for my initial consultation I was greeted and made to feel welcome. Dr. Tamara put me right at ease and patiently explained my options for dealing with my somewhat complicated medical and dental conditions. During the entire subsequent course of my treatment I was so impressed with Dr. Tamara’s dental expertise, as well the kind, gentle, and caring manner with which it was carried out. I was also very impressed with the quality and caring of the entire dental practice support personnel, especially Cathy, whose dental expertise was also very evident and whose gentle touch and uncanny ability to know in advance what I needed were much appreciated… even to holding my hand during the administration of anesthesia; a special touch that quieted my nerves. The office staff, especially Pam, completes the theme of what I think of as the essence of the Sedona Dental Arts practice: QUALITY, CARING, AND GENTLE dental care.

Dr. Tamara was great in every respect. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely competent. I like the way she was preventive by recommending treatment that would keep my teeth in good shape and save money in the long run. She has gentle hands and keeps the patient informed of exactly what she is doing. The rest of the staff was excellent as well. They were always courteous and extremely capable at their jobs. Cathy, Dr. Tamara’s assistant, deserves special kudos.
