Dr. Tamela Mina Amiri, MD

I expressed concern after my child had missed meds a couple of times, as Dr Amiri was largely unavailable and did not return calls to schedule appointments or call in refills. She threatened to drop my child as a patient. She then called another Dr that she knew i saw that I had once mentioned in passing, completely unrelated to her, who had no idea we were even seeing her, and gave him a run down of excuses for her unprofessionalism - funny thing is, I was in the room when she called! The other Dr told me it broke every code of ethics and it was also illegal to drop a child as a patient who is under your care, without making sure the child is redirected to another practitioner- which he asked her if she had done. She had not. He advised her to do so and got off the phone with her. Advised us to completely move on, and we did.

I saw Dr. Amiri as needed over the course of several years. She is always responsive. Dr. Amiri makes accurate assessments; while empathetic, she is able to convey what is needed for change, in a non-threatening manner.

I had been very happy with Dr Amiri when I saw her. After I moved I had a major family crisis and couldn't find a new doctor to continue my prescription. Dr Amiri had said she'd be willing to help with refills for a little while after my move and I really needed it given how my life got turned upside down. I was about to run out and had no refills so I called to ask for some. She refused. So I had to go cold turkey off the meds I was on which was not pretty.

She has been treating my daughter for years and picked up in diagnoses that other psychiatrists had not. She’s fabulous

Extremely attentive and very good at what she does. She is in really high demand and I feel so fortunate to have her helping my son.

Dr Amiri treated my daughter. She was difficult to work with. It was very hard to book appointments as her receptionist doesn’t answer the phone or return calls. Other doctors we work with found her difficult to work with or collaborate with, mostly as she was unavailable and also did not return calls or return paperwork. She would completely ignore repeated requests for information. They found it very confusing. She was unresponsive to medication refills. When I expressed concern about my daughter being at camp without her prescription refill, her response was “if she’s that sick she shouldn’t be at camp”. (She saw her the day before she left for camp and gave her a big thumbs up). She charged a late fee for a cancel that was done with 23 hours notice, versus the full 24 hours and complained how her policy should really be 48 hours. When I did not mail her a check for the late fee, she cancelled my daughters meds. (We see her regularly and I thought I would simply be… charged in our next appt- I didn’t know she wanted a check sent in the mail- she did not tell me she wanted a check mailed, nor did they inform me they were cancelling the meds- they just did.). She is a medication writer, but she is not a doctor with a “heart”. She is not invested in her patients, and literally does not care. I found the experience difficult and stressful, I found her difficult, other practitioners found her difficult, and I did not feel like my child was able to get consistent, responsible and safe care. In the end, it appears she is looking to work with very low maintenance ADHD patients. She can write them a script for Ritalin in a 15 min appt, and doesn’t have to worry about patients who require a bigger investment or who might at some point require a returned phone call or collaboration with another therapist. Wish I had read her online reviews before trying to work with her. She is too overbooked to handle her patient load and probably needs to scale back.

She's one of the first psychiatrists who have actually listened to my concerns and taken them seriously.

Total prescription writer, spends 5 minutes with you and then prescribes a slew of heavy duty antipsychotics. Over medicates and doesn't know her patients at all, she could barely remember who I was let alone what meds she had put me on whenever I called or had an appointment
