Dr. Tamela Ann Martin, MD

I have been going to Dr Martin for over 5 years. Until recently she has been a very good, caring Dr.. I have recommended her to many people. Her staff is another story. Every since she moved to the Indian Wells the new staff has been unresponsive, rude and callous. Then the lie about the care they (did't) provide. I have Fuchs disease which has required 3 Cornea transplants. Only a couple of Dr.'s still provide this service. The Dr that did the transplant is at UCLA, which is a difficult 3 hr drive, each way - if the traffic is good. I called Dr Martin 5 days ago to get my anti-rejection drops refilled. She has now gone to reduced hours and no one is ever there to answer the phone. In the past the message recover has been filled so you can't even leave a message. I was also informed that there is a new law in California that requires you to see the doctor every 3 months if you want to have a prescription refilled. After a couple of tries I left a message that I… need the refill and that I needed an appointment as soon as possible. I was called back 5 days later by a very rude female who advised me that after refilling my prescription for the last 5 years, I would now have to go back to the Dr who did my transplant. The Dr who did my transplant is no longer taking new patients. I has been over 2 yrs since I have seen him. The reason is that I am a senior who has a very difficult time making such a long drive and my friends have the same problem. Also Dr Martin was checking my transplants and monitoring any issues. I am going to see if my local Retina Dr. will write the Rx for me. He also has a busy practice is not easy to get into either. Now I don't have the medication, which I am supposed to take daily for the rest of my life. Terrible Customer Service. I will never go back!!!

This is a very bad operation. Dr. Martin seemed like an okay person, but her office staff is horrible. NEVER was I EVER given a total cost although requested many times. The literature is confusing (on purpose). The staff NEVER answers any questions other than those it wishes to answer. How many doctor practices do you know that ask checks to be made out NOT to the doctor; NOT to a medical practice...but, to the husband of the doctor. Finally, I telephoned to get the doctor's state license and the husband's business license. Their office called the police. If they don't want to talk with you...they will accuse you of harassment or whatever. Watch Out!!! This is a eery bad place to go. You have been warned.

In my opinion, Dr. Martin is loony. I would not recommend her to anyone who wants good health care - you will not get it from her.

Dr. Martin is a highly skilled ophthalmologist who is very caring about her patients' well being. She was spot on in diagnosing my eye issues and she performed flawless cataract surgery on both eyes at different times.

Excellent at monitoring serious eye issues, as well as regular exams/prescriptions

The staff was rude and dismissive. I was 12 minutes late and they had cancelled my appointment.

Omg I just had the worst experience at Dr. Tamela Martin Opthalmology Rancho Mirage! In my search of who to file a complaint to I decided to read reviews from others patients "the worst clinic ever", "avoid Tamela and her rude-staff", "avoid Tamela and her unprofessional staff" I have had three bad experiences with the girl at the front desk! Today she not only called me a lier, she also called my mom a lier! Needless to say I walked out! Stay clear of this place! Who do I file a complaint to?

Unbeknownst to me I had a detached retina which she diagnosed immediately. She understood the urgency and personally made arrangements with a doctor who specialized in this type of surgery and is one of the best in the field. I had the surgery 3 days later. I love and respect her approach to medicine and patient care. I now understand why it took so long to get an appointment.... she is beyond wonderful and is in great demand. The wait was worth it. She TOTALLY took care of me!

This was a very refreshing experience it was obvious that Dr martin actually cared about my concerns and cared about my overall health and what was best for me.I wish all my Dr.'s were as caring as she is.
