Dr. Tami Carrillo, MD

Tami Carrillo, M.D., joined City of Hope® Chicago in July 2019. In late 2025, she decided to join City of Hope Orange County in Irvine, California. As an experienced interventional radiologist, Dr. Carrillo uses imaging to guide the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.Dr. Carrillo utilizes minimally invasive techniques to target and treat tumors with the newest technologies, including microwave ablation, chemoembolization, radioembolization, cryoablation, radiofrequency ablation and pulsed electric field ablation. By using imaging for guidance, postoperative pain is minimized and recovery time is shortened. She also uses imaging guidance to treat spine fractures with kyphoplasty, to treat ureteral strictures with stents and balloons, and to open blood vessels with stents.Dr. Carrillo received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. She earned a Master of Urban Planning and Public Policy from the University of Illinois Chicago College of …Urban Planning and Public Affairs in Chicago, Illinois, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. She then completed an internship in internal medicine at Loyola University Health System in Maywood, Illinois, and a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Illinois Chicago Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.Dr. Carrillo has an interest in clinical research and has contributed to several published articles and presentations. She is a member of many professional organizations, including the Society of Interventional Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American College of Radiology and American Medical Association.
