Summary
Meet Dr. Tammy Tran
Dr. Tran was born in San Diego, but grew up right here in Orange County. She attended U.C. Irvine, majoring in biology, and then was privileged to have been admitted to dental school at New York University in Manhattan, one of the leading dental schools in the country.
While at New York University, she was one of only five students in her class selected for an honors program in pediatric dentistry. It was a year-long residency. She really loves treating children, and she very much enjoyed this time.
She was also selected for a two year program that treated medically compromised and mentally challenged patients.
After graduation she was selected to become a resident at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital where she continued her training as a dentist, focusing on oral surgery, such as mending jaw fractures and suturing up lacerations. Another focus of her training there was emergency dentistry such as dealing with broken teeth.
Immediately after graduation, she …worked in a couple of private practices in New York. She wanted to do more than just work in private offices though. She signed up for a program where she traveled through the boroughs of New York City doing dental education in the dental van. She also traveled to both Tanzania and the Dominican Republic helping needy patients receive dental treatment and education.
Dr. Tran’s Practice Philosophy
Dr. Tammy Tran’s priority is to make her patients comfortable. She realizes that much of the dental neglect in our country comes because of dental anxiety, so she wants to do whatever it takes to make her patients feel comfortable. She especially enjoys treating children, because she can help them form positive attitudes about dental care. Many people who have fears of the dentist can trace that fear back to an unpleasant experience with a childhood dentist. Dr. Tran has vowed never to let that happen with one of her patients.
She likes getting to know people and their families, and so provides complete care for the entire family. And they all love her. Mary, her office manager, reports that she is constantly getting comments about how gentle she is. “She’s gentle, they love her, she’s sweet. The kids love her.â€
Dr. Tran goes out of her way to ensure that her patients are well educated in proper oral hygiene, and she carefully discusses the reasons for the treatment she recommends, as well as how to prevent the same situations in the future.
She likes new technology, but is only interested in technology that improves the quality of dental treatment. She doesn’t feel the need to purchase the latest “toys†available, that are not cost effective. She understands the need to keep dental care affordable.
In Her Free Time
When not in the office, she likes her recreation and relaxation, in her case snowboarding, salsa dancing, photography, and spending time with her pet kitten, Sheldon.
