Dr. Teddy A Cohen, MD

I had seen Ted Cohen at a previous location years before, and went to see him twice a year ago. Many odd occurrences: 1) I asked if he would send a request for a blood test to Quest relevant to my situation so we could discuss it when I arrive for an appointment. First he told me he'd leave it stuck in the front door of his office (!!!). When I told him no, he said he'd send it. I followed up with the receptionist (2 person office - Cohen and receptionist) several times but when it was finally sent about a month later it had the wrong codes and my insurer would not have accepted it. 2) Making an appointment was equally difficult. I wrote that it's a 2 person office. Actually he's alone most of the time. Twice he answered the phone and when I asked if it's Dr. Cohen he'd reply "I can take a message" but after I saw him I realized it was his voice. Then I'd see him and he'd be alone and there was always an excuse - "The receptionist wanted to go shopping and I let her… leave early", etc. 3) Calling the office he has recorded a message saying "There are 4 people on hold in front of you. You can leave a message with your number and you will be called back within 90 minutes". It's possible to call his office at 2 AM and there is the same message. But I could deal with those quirks (although I should have known better). I'm writing this review because after the last time I saw him I asked the part time receptionist as I was leaving how much my co-payment is. She studied her computer screen and I paid the amount she told me. Six weeks later they still hadn't submitted my claim to my insurer. I called several times to have them do so. Once they finally did, I found out that the doctor had received 80% of the allowable billing from the insurer. Instead of charging me my 20% co-pay, I had been charged the same amount that the doctor received (4 times what I actually owed as co-pay). I made multiple phone calls to get it cleared up. Four times or more I would clearly explain the situation to Ruth and she would say she'd get back to me the next day. I was never called back. Finally I did a charge back to the credit card I'd paid with. Cohen contested the charge back, and, told me that I owed double what they'd charged me due to my deductible. This was false. I made a complaint to the insurer and I submitted documents to my credit card company for the chargeback. I finally was refunded the money by my credit card company. The final refund took about 6 months to get cleared up. Never again.
