Dr. Starz is exceptional in every way. He is really knowledgeable, kind, and unusually professional. Without Dr. Starz as my 30-year PCP, the quality of my life with arthritis would have been unmanageable. He is a UPMC treasure!

Retired and can’t talk about himself anymore. His patients will probably miss hearing about him and his scholarly activities.

Dr. Starz is as quick as a whip. He is warm, professional and welcoming, listens attentively, and just “gets it.” His experience is beyond exceptional, and Dr. Starz is thorough and very clear about how we will proceed. He has managed my disease with nuanced, proactive treatments over many years, always quick to address recurrences. The best, most talented and skillful doctor I’ve ever had.

My wife with rheum arthritis was transferred bc of her former local UPMC Erie provider left the practice. This rheumatologist never stopped tooting his own horn and bad mouthing the last rheum (excellent). She won’t return to Pgh. How unprofessional!

Dr. Starz has been my doctor for close to two decades. In that time, I have always found him to be attentive to my questions and needs. He regularly stays well after office hours to answer calls and see patients.

As Dr. Starz would say that you know your body better than anyone. Dr.Starz cares about your overall well being more than any other specialist that I have ever seen. A small example is upon one exam, he noticed a blackhead located on the middle of my back that is difficult for me to reach with my RA, he cleared that blackhead without saying a word. Who does that!. My ongoing treatments have been spot on in keeping my RA in check. We have had several adjustments in medication to be sure my health remains most important. As other comments attest he also gets to know his patients on a deep personal basis. I regularly thank the person who recommended him to me, I will need to thank Dr. Starz on my next visit. Many other doctors have a lot to learn from Dr. Starz.

Dr. Starz is thorough, resourceful, caring, kind, patient and relentless. He asks you to call him with updates and he actually takes the calls. He spends time getting to know you and learns how you live with your pain. He has always been spot on with his diagnoses of my problems. He is truly one of a kind.

I've been a patient of Dr. Starz for over 10+. He is a caring physician who takes the time to get to know the patient's health and well-being. I was referred to Dr. Starz by a workmate who knew Dr. Starz professionally. That was in the late '80's. I even moved away for a time. But, whenever I came back to the area, I returned to Dr. Starz for arthritis treatment because I didn't want to have to search for another rheumatologist. He was still practicing, and then UPMC updated the office system and then the practice was moved closer to Shadyside Hospital. The office procedure has been greatly updated to ensure a timely turnaround of patients.The long wait of previous years is long gone. The wait time varies due to all of the patients' needs for the day. I gave a medium wait time, because of that fact. Thank you for reading!
