I am so sorry you had this experience. I am a Retired RN who had misfortune of understanding this particular doc as a co-worker. Many surgeons are pure Ego and will stop at Nothing to let everyone know that the patient’s body is by gosh under their control. Surgeons get ENRAGED when another provider has an idea that Works. Esp in front of family. Sounds like you saw Ego Unmasked ~

Husband, father was passing unexpectedly and she was called in by hospital to consult. She stated her opinion that nothing further should be done for the patient. Patient’s regular physicians, that know him, and see him often decided that one more intervention should be attempted before giving up. She came back the following day, uninvited, and with the most condescending, superior, exasperated attitude and informed everyone in the room that she thought she had made herself clear the previous day. She then proceeded to be-little the patient’s wife by removing her glasses, rolling her eyes, exhaling deeply and asking exactly what good she thought this “Hail Mary” might do. She then attacked character of the other physicians involved in his care. This heartless, uncaring, berating attitude continued until she was finally able to read the room and stupidly ask “are you mad at me”! Yes everyone was mad and crying and the upset continued throughout the day. She is extremely… unprofessional and obviously missed the class on compassion. The family ask the she not be allowed back into the room.
