One of the most important educational gifts of having received medical education (SUNY Upstate Medical University) and partial medical residency training (University of Massachusetts) in the Northeast at superior academic medical centers is the realization of the character, the wellness, and the health of certain medical professionals in retrospect upon meeting them in a nonmedical setting at a young age (12-13 years of age) in the Midwest, in the state of Michigan. I met Terrence Brennan very shortly between the ages of 12 to 13 years of age, and it wasn't until after the medical education and the partial medical residency training that I remember an example of nonverbal cues of pathology, that of eye contact. The most important part about being a former member of the healthcare system in this country is what one is able to realize in retrospect regarding the character and the wellness of medical professionals. I did not complete residency training (Internal Medicine and… then in Pathology) in entirety as I realized the healthcare realm was not the right choice for me as I refuse to settle in terms of geographic location for residency training with subsequent practice (i.e. the state of Michigan). There are many different types of physicians and of healthcare professionals in this country with a geographic segregation according to the ACGME competencies, physician wellness, and health. The most superior medical training is at academic medical centers of the northeast. The most medically knowledgeable and well physicians stay at such large academic medical centers of the northeast on staff. After being in the context of such phenomenal individuals of the northeast, I realized that I would never settle as a physician if my mental capacity did not satisfy the standards that I set very highly for patient care in this country. In retrospect, after having been in the Northeast, I started to think of the experiences that I have had meeting physicians in the Midwest at a younger age in a nonmedical setting. Some physicians have an ill eye contact toward preadolescents and adolescents (12 to 13 years of age), that is a prolonged stare with a gross correlation, in a nonmedical setting (i.e. behavioral ophthalmology). Such physicians as Terrence Brennan was at that time, were quite unhealthy compared to the Northeast. There is a subconscious, unconscious, or perhaps even conscious reason for such a nonverbal cue, and when reflecting in retrospect, I did not realize the grossness of such a stare until my phenomenal partial residency training in Pathology at the University of Massachusetts (2011-2012). Some primary care physicians of this country such as Terrence Brennan are ill in terms of eye contact even for a moment, when external to the professional realm and in the informal setting to preadolescents and to adolescents. The Northeast's academic medical centers and clinics are far superior to the Midwest's academic medical centers and clinics.
