Dr. Terri Ellen Getzug, MD

I think she needs to do a better job at following up and explaining results. I had abnormal results and she never called. Very discouraging

Dr. Getzug is an amazing doctor! She has helped me so much and she listens and cares about my symptoms. Dr. Getzug and her staff in all respects are exemplary providers of patient-centered care. When Dr. G sees me, she is focused, interested, and very kind. Her friendliness makes me feel at ease during my appointments, and she communicates with me in such a way that I feel like an important decision-maker in my treatment plan. I get personalized care with Dr. G. She listens and encourages my questions. When she learned I was a graduate scholar, she gave me a research article on how the medication she prescribed for me works. Though she explained the drug to me clearly, I greatly appreciated the access to additional educational information and feel even better about taking it now. Another example of Dr. Gs thoughtfulness was her concern about helping make my routine blood draws as convenient for me as possible; she apparently cares about my life, not just my intestines. Dr. Getzug sends me all my test results through myUCLAhealth online portal (which is an awesome user-friendly system… that really helps me participate in my healthcare) with a note interpreting them for me. She has even checked in on me between office visits through the online portal. Being able to quickly communicate with my doctor and her staff has helped me make adjustments in my treatment to feel better and better. Dr. G is not merely a medical provider; shes a provider of care!

First time patient; she spent ample time with me. Feel like I'm back on track

I had been 2 three local doctors over a nine month period trying to diagnose a bowel disorder that I was having. To say that the disease affected my quality of life is a major understatement. I won't go into the details but it was one of the most difficult times of my life. I was referred to Dr. Getzug and she spent over 2 1/2 hours with me on my initial visit and at the end she told me that she was very confident that she knew what was causing the problem. She scheduled me for a colonoscopy within several days and her initial thought was spot on. I have what is thought to be a rare condition called Lymphocytic colitis. My colonoscopy, like all other patients with this disease, showed up perfectly normal but she, unlike other doctors, biopsied the lining to see if what she suspected (the lymphocytic colitis) was present in the biopsied tissue and it was. She called me on my birthday to tell me that the diagnosis she originally suspected was correct and that we could begin… treatment the next day. I can assure you it was the best present I could have received! It took several types of medication (Asacol and Prednesone) before I ended up on Entocort EC which within 8 weeks literally changed my life! She slowly got me off of the drug and put me on a daily dose of Benefiber one time each night. I am living a completely normal and happy life again. I haven't had so much as a single incident since I finished the medication. Her response time to your emails is same day and most of the time within 2 hours. Her bedside manner is ideal. She is compassionate about her job and about her patients. She is also very confident that this so-called "rare" disease is anything but rare. Most people just look at the colonoscopy and don't do the biopsy so it is assumed that you are OK, should go home and relax and it will go away. Well, if it is this disease or another one that needs diagnosis by biopsy please don't accept that answer from your doctor. If you feel that something is wrong, it most likely is, and if you want it fixed, give Dr. Getzug a call because she just might be able to change your life like she did mine. I will be forever grateful to her for that.

Not a good Dr....took her too long past what she said to get my results, had to put in over 15 URGENT messages to get her to finally call me...didn't seem to know my diagnosis...find someone else to do a colonoscopy
