Dr. Thanuja Udayanganie Liyanarachchi, MD

This doctor is extremely negligent and has inappropriate bedside manner. 1. She does not take ANY time to properly counsel patient on IUDs 2. She made me as a patient- believe an IUD is a good option, despite my known illnesses. 3. She did not give me any information regarding the cervix-softening medication I was told to take prior to the IUD insertion. The medication caused me to have multiple panic attacks while driving to the dr to get the IUD put in. This is not safe for anyone! 4. Due to the negative affects of the medication, I was unable to think clearly and was hysterical. I had to call the dr office to get assistance as I was running late and unable to find their parking garage. After getting transferred and hung up on multiple times, I was finally able to get clear directions from a Kaiser employee over the phone. 5. When I finally arrived to get my IUD inserted, Dr Liyanarachchi was extremely rude and insensitive to the fact that I suffered multiple panic attacks while… attempting to make it to the appt with her. She made a point to scold me for being upset. She also made a point to state "Everyone in the office is talking about you!". THIS IS NOT HIPPA COMPLIANT! 6. Next Dr. Liyanarachchi asked if I have any mental illness and if I was seeing any one for this. This is EXTREMELY messed up as my chart shows I have PTSD and anxiety, and that I was currently seeing a therapist weekly and a psychiatrist monthly for med mgmt. When I mentioned this she literally just shrugged it off- didn't even apologize for NOT knowing my info that is CLEARLY written on my chart! 7. I filed a complaint with Kaiser in order to have her trained as she is unprofessional and incompetent. Kaiser replied and stated no action has been taken. 8. I almost committed suicide twice this year due to the hormonal issues caused by the IUD that Dr. Liyanarachchi INCOMPETENTLY put inside of me. 9. I've suffered all negative side affects from the IUD and was not properly counseled during or after in order to prevent future issues worsening. 10. Overall, with this Dr you will not get a person that cares about you or makes sure what procedures/meds you choose are appropriate. You will instead get a lazy, incompetent, rude, apathetic person pretending they know what they're doing. But, how could she know what she is doing for you when she fails to check your chart?

Dr. Liyanarachchi sat down with me and went through all of my medications as I requested, and not only did she give me her advice on how to proceed with my medications in the future, but she also asked me caring questions about my health issues, about how they developed, and what could possibly help. I know that it seems like any doctor should do that, but I've been to countless practitioners in the past few years who ask me a few simple questions, tell me to try a new medication, write a prescription, and then tell me that we're all done. She was thorough, compassionate, and even brought up issues that no one had cared to, or thought to, mention before, and was able to recommend something for that too! I felt very taken care of. I will definitely be back to her if at all possible.
