Dr. Thomas Albert Ambrose, MD

Dr. Ambrose is a bigot. The only good part about my experience was the front desk staff. The nurses are on their cell phones with critical data the doctor is a pompous jerk. Taking about weight loss when he must weigh 300 lbs himself. In a waiting room full of people loudly yells at the front staff calling them ignorant and other choice words. Avera orthopedics is a joke. They should remember it's a competitive field and they are a dime a dozen word of mouth goes along ways. Clearly hes a crappy doctor and has no respect for Avera staff.

Probably a bad choice on my part. In the end, I don't feel he was qualified to do the surgery. I had to get it fixed with someone else 6 months later.

My husband recently had a hip replacement done by Dr. Ambrose. My husband is a big man, but Dr. Ambrose was willing to operate on him because he was able to see that my husband was determined, strong, and really wanted this to happen. No joke was ever made about his weight. Dr. Ambrose's dry sense of humor may have been misunderstood by other patients, because we found him to be highly capable and a great surgeon. He came to visit my husband the day after surgery and changed his dressing himself, while wearing a white dress shirt. We would recommend Dr. Ambrose wholeheartedly for a successful outcome.

Dr. Ambrose is an arrogant bonafide A-hole! If you are overweight he will make you feel like an ignorant and worthless piece of crap. Really pushes the bariatric surgery, don't know if he gets a cut if he refers you or what?? Doesn't spend much time with you, which is good, cause he makes you feel so awful, you are glad he rushes in and out. Day of surgery, they had the wrong knee listed on the paperwork, also had my weight off by 100 lbs. After surgery, went to the waiting room and told my husband he needed to put a lock on our refrigerator. How's that for bedside manner? Totally unprofessional, uncalled for, and unappreciated! I am 50 years old, I know I'm overweight, I know I need to loose weight. I'm fat, not stupid. I wouldn't recommend him, ever go back to him, nor would I send my worst enemy to this jerk! And it wouldn't hurt Dr. Ambrose to lose 25-30 lbs himself. I lovingly refer to him as Dr. SOB (you figure it out). I'm sure my comments will magically disappear,… since they are unfavorable.
