Dr. Thomas Lloyd Archer, MD

I am particularly interested in resident education, OB anesthesia and the management and economics of perioperative care. During my 21 years in private practice, I helped organize an anesthesia professional corporation and for two years was the Chief of Anesthesia at a large, not-for-profit hospital.

In 1997 I received the MBA degree from the University of South Florida and in the year 2000 I completed a Fellowship in the Management of Perioperative Services at Stanford.

I did extensive medical education work in Nicaragua and Bolivia from 1990 until 1997 and I remain interested in Latin America.

My greatest professional satisfaction comes from exploring with residents and medical students all aspects of medical care, from the technical, pharmacological and physiological to the psychological, interpersonal and social.

I am currently a Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the UCSD School of Medicine and Medical Director of Obstetric Anesthesia at UCSD Medical Center.
