Dr. Thomas Gerald Beer, MD

I’m sure it’s kind of rare to leave a review for an Anesthesiologist. They are always there when you have surgery, and unlike your surgeon you usually do not get to pick your Anesthesiologist. I have had a few surgeries in my life, and I don’t remember a single Anesthesiologist. That was until I met Dr. Beer, wow what a nice guy! I was super nervous, and he put me at ease. He explained things very well and was right there when I got out of surgery. I was very nauseous coming out of surgery, and Dr. Beer actually listened to me as I explained my symptoms. He immediately treated my nausea and got me comfortable. It felt great to be heard and taken seriously. Thank you Dr. Beer (like the drink ??) you were awesome!!

Dr. Beer was the appointed anesthesiologist by Scottsdale Healthcare at Shea for my labor and delivery process during my first ever pregnancy. Initially he gave me an overdose of epidural which was way over the limit set up for my 4 cm dilation. I knew about this overdose from his "oops" conversation with the nurse behind the curtain. The labor process then started halting. To counter that, the nurse gave me Pitocin. Dr. Beer then never came back (until after 6 hours) to adjust my epidural dose. (On many times during these 6 hours, he was simply chit-chatting with the nurses at a station right outside my labor room). I was in obvious pain, with erratic contractions. They even put me on Oxygen. When he finally arrived (by which time I was 8 cm) he practically yelled at me to ask how much it hurts. My husband was very angry with Dr. Beer's manners, but let it slide because he was focused on me. Then at 8cm, Dr. Beer gave me another very high dose of sedative through my IV. When my… OB/GYN came, she was mad about the high dose of sedative so close to the birth, since the sedative interfered with my ability to push. She mentioned that it was very irresponsible on the part of Anesthesiologist to administer the unnecessary overdose. So to conclude, this doctor overdosed me twice, was more interested in chitchatting with nurses than to attend to patients in pain, and also yelled at me when I was in labor!! Utterly insensitive. I am going to call him soon and talk to him about his lack of any civility and manners.
