Dr. Thomas Joel Berry, MD

I want to see Dr. Berru because my mom sees him and she likes him very much. My first initial appointment with him went really well. Unfortunately today I had to have a epidural steroid injection. I was very very nervous because the last time that I had a procedure with another doctor it went very wrong and I was in a lot of pain. I made sure the doctor was aware that I was very very nervous. Everyone was nice when I got to the surgery suite, they gave me some medicine to calm me down but I’m going to be totally honest when I say that the medicine did not help very much. When they wheeled me into the operating room I was scared. They gave me some medicine in my IV and I told them that I was very aware and I was expecting to be a little bit groggy, almost feeling like the medicine would make me not so nervous.. When Dr. Berry came in I told him my concerns and he proceeded to tell me that if I wanted to be put to sleep that I could go to a different hospital. Mind you I was facedown… on the table getting ready to be for all intents and purposes operated on . I know the procedure doesn’t seem like a big deal but it was a big deal to me. So this comment really put me off and made me have a bad experience. He basically told me to go somewhere else. And then when I wanted to talk to them after the procedure was done I told him my concerns and he told me not to come back and to find another doctor. I would’ve thought that a doctor would understand my concerns and be a little bit sympathetic but instead he didn’t apologize for saying that while I was on the table and he told me to find another doctor rather than try to work with me and my concerns. I am very very disappointed. And I wouldn’t recommend him To anyone else. And to be honest with you I kind of expect an apology. I had a very bad car accident involving an 18 wheeler where I was rear-ended and I have a lot of pain. Dr. Barry knew that and basically wrote me off like I didn’t matter.

From the very first time, I met Dr. Berry, I knew he was different from the rest of the pain doctors that I've seen. He didn't go through the motions of pretending to listen to me, he actually cared about what I was saying and took the time to explain why he was going to change something or not. I always left feeling better than when I arrived even if there wasn't a change just because he listened and explained things to where I understood it. So if you're looking for a doctor who is going to care about you, not just for you, Dr. Berry is the one you need to see. He's the man!!
