Thomas Brewer

After being together for over a decade, my partner and I sought the professional services of Dr. Thomas Brewer of Interbloom Health due to escalating issues in our relationship. We engaged in weekly one-hour couple’s counseling sessions with Dr. Brewer over a three-month period. My experience during these sessions was disheartening and, unfortunately, it ultimately led to the dissolution of our relationship. While I now see our separation as a step towards healthier outcomes for both of us, I am concerned about the role Dr. Brewer played during our counseling. My partner has been diagnosed with CPTSD and presented traits of Borderline Personality Disorder, conditions that fall within Dr. Brewer’s areas of clinical expertise. Despite this, it seemed that my partner's condition significantly influenced Dr. Brewer's perception and handling of our relationship issues. My attempts to discuss these issues were met with skepticism from Dr. Brewer. This, I believe, contributed to… reinforcing my partner's distorted views about me and our relationship dynamics. A particularly alarming incident involved a violent and baseless accusation from my partner against me. When I brought this up in therapy, Dr. Brewer accused me of trying to paint my partner as a 'monster.' This response was deeply troubling, as it appeared to dismiss the gravity of the false accusation and its impact on me. Following this, my partner unexpectedly left our shared home. In the subsequent sessions with Dr. Brewer, I felt a sense of eagerness on his part to conclude our sessions and refer us to a professional mediator. This abrupt end to our counseling, without meaningful resolution or support, was particularly distressing. An additional point of concern was Dr. Brewer's policy of not accepting insurance, despite our having coverage. Given his high demand, he operates on a direct payment basis, bypassing the need to engage with insurance carriers. This approach meant that we faced substantial out-of-pocket expenses, which was particularly disheartening given the lack of effective and compassionate care. The financial burden of this arrangement seemed even more pronounced due to our earnest desire to save our relationship, a situation that I believe many couples in similar distress might find themselves willing to endure, despite the high costs. Reflecting on my motivations for writing this review, it stems from a place of caution rather than bitterness. My objective is to inform potential clients of Dr. Brewer about my experience, particularly those in similar situations. My concern is less about the end of my long-term relationship and more about how the counseling process under Dr. Brewer's guidance impacted my self-confidence and healing journey, especially considering the significant financial investment of $275 per session.
