Dr. Thomas Andrew Brunell, MD

Dr. Brunell serves as the Director of Emergency Medicine Education at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Brunell holds a master's degree in English Literature from Rutgers University. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Massachusetts/Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, Mass., where he also was a flight physician for UMass/Memorial Life Flight. Dr. Brunell has also completed two teaching fellowships through the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Emergency Medicine Foundation.

Dr. Brunell is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is a member of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the Connecticut College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Brunell previously was associated with Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Mass., where he served as the Associate Residency Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and held an appointment as an …Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston. Dr. Brunell gives lectures nationally, regionally and locally on subjects pertaining to emergency medicine and the art of teaching emergency medicine.

At Saint Francis, he will be responsible for the education of medical students and residents from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine who rotate through the Hospital's Emergency Department. He will serve as a resource for the teaching of emergency medicine throughout the institution. He currently holds an appointment as an Associate Professor of Traumatology and Emergency Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
