About Me

I have been an Anesthesiologist for 15 years. I am certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support with the American Heart Association. I am a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the California Society of Anesthesiologists, the Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association, and the California Medical Association

I grew up in Los Angeles, California. Both of my parents are physicians, as well as my older sister and brother. My sister practices Ob/Gyn at Kaiser Permanente in southern California. I completed my undergraduate studies at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1975 and obtained a B.A. in biology. I attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, and received my M.D. in 1979. Subsequently, I completed my internship and residency training at Los Angeles County Harbor UCLA Medical Center. I became board certified in Emergency Medicine and worked in this field for five years at several hospitals in California. I even worked in the emergency room at Kaiser Permanente, Walnut Creek in 1986. I decided to do further residency training and completed a three year anesthesiology residency in 1989 at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. I remained on the faculty at the medical school for ten years and earned the level of Associate Professor of Anesthesiology. The medical center was a university based tertiary care trauma center. I had an enriching experience providing preoperative patient care, teaching anesthesiology residents, performing clinical research and administrative duties. I moved back to the San Francisco Bay area three years ago and joined Kaiser Permanente.

I choose to practice anesthesiology at Kaiser Permanente because of the excellent, well-run anesthesia department and the integrated health care delivery system, the highly trained medical colleagues that work with me, and the superb facilities and equipment where I work. Our department consists of 20 M.D. anesthesiologists and 25 Certified Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA). We provide anesthesia services at Walnut Creek, Martinez and Pleasanton. I am impressed how well we work together as a team, teach and learn from each other, and strive to provide the most recent, high quality anesthesia care. Also, I teach nurse anesthesia residents, part time.

My personal life is full and satisfying. I have been married to my wife Marianne for 18 years. I have five daughters between the ages of 7 and 17 years old. I met my wife in the hospital when she was working as a registered nurse. She subsequently went on and received a masters in public health from UCLA and a law degree. She works full time in the health care field. Much of my free time is spent with my family and I enjoy hiking, skiing, biking, and swimming.

Ensuring Data Transparency and Trust: A Guide to Vitals Doctor Listings and Reviews

Our provider data is gathered directly from physicians and publicly available databases. Providers who verify their profiles gain the ability to update information, offering additional details about their specialties, education, treated conditions, performed procedures, and accepted insurances.

Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.

Your feedback is highly valued and we encourage you to contact our support team should you encounter any issues.
