Dr. Thomas Harmon Castle JR., MD

Visit was an example of confirmation bias: Went to a doc voted “Seattle’s Best” regarding a knee issue/ torn meniscus. I found myself at a loss for words when, after assuring me that he sees many in “my profession” (after telling him about myself and job), advises me to “lift my skirt and apply Voltaren to knee before each shift”. Reading his chart notes, sure enough, he states that I am a 60 year old professional flight attendant. I am a senior captain. All patients should be treated equally, but a clear understanding of one’s professional and public safety implications should not be clouded by a doctor’s biases or misogyny. Additionally, the simple minded language used to dismiss me was unacceptable.

The appointment with Dr. Castle was such a waste of time. Went there with a severe knee pain. After the assistants took X-Ray, he came in to the room, told me that I had arthritis on both knees and not to do anything that would cause pain (wow... I never thought of that before!). When I asked about an injection since I can't even climb the stairs without excessive pain, he said that it could make it better, but I'd just need to take pain killers, tolerate it the way it is and suffer it through, didn't even explain why he wouldn't do the injections. He didn't even ask if I had any questions or anything, he just got up and showed his hand for a hand shake and left the room. He probably didn't even stay in the room for 5 minutes. I already take 2 aleves a day, every day, I am already suffering it through. This doctor visit absolutely contributed to nothing about my condition. And since he told me not to do anything that causes pain, I guess I'll just stop climbing stairs and sleep… downstairs on a couch from now on. This visit just fell short of the minimum of what I could expect from a doctor's visit.

I have to contrast with the prior review. I had a large meniscus tear from a sports accident that locked my knee and needed immediate action. I saw Dr. Castle the day after my accident, he moved my knee around and diagnosed perfectly in ~30 seconds. He did the surgery less than a week later and it went well. So far my knee has recovered significantly and still seems to be progressing well. Dr. Castle is old school and acts very confident, but that can be reassuring when you are worried and just want to get better. He was honest about the odds of success and seemed to genuinely care about having a successful outcome.

I had a meniscus repair which I thought would be easy. Many people I know have has very successful surgeries. I’m still unable to run or jump a year later. Dr Castle didn’t attend any follow up or seem to care. This is a big deal - do your research as these surgeries will Impact the rest of your life.

Dr. Castle is witty and kind and most importantly, he explains everything so we understand it. Excellent surgeon!

Had a failed acl reconstruction with Dr. Castle with poor results and issues ever since. His surgery was lousy and he refused to take fault in his work. I regret the day I trusted Dr. Castle, and I continue to suffer from the issues he has caused everyday. Everytime I spoke of my concerns, he insisted that there was nothing wrong and ultimately let this nonending accumulation of mechanical problems persist and exacerbate, when all it took was to take responsibility and provide me with the reality of the issue. If I could give zero stars, I would. Refrain from seeing this doctor if you want to sustain quality of life. Shame on you Dr. Castle for your hubris and lack of empathy.

Dr. Castle is a pretty good surgeon but his ego and attitude suck

Dr. Castle performed a lateral and medial meniscectomy on my right knee and I am thrilled with the results. He and his staff (Clarissa) are very competent, courteous, responsive and service-oriented. I highly recommend his practice.

Seems he was in a Hurry.. Did spend quality time and answer the questions we had.

I have been a patient of Dr Castle since the 90's and recently made an appointment to see him regarding severe hip pain. I came in with an xray and an MRI. Dr Castle looked at the DVD of the xray, said it was an ultra sound and sent me for another xray. The xray was on the disc, he simply failed to check further. After looking at my 2nd xray he told me I had torn the muscles from my hip and there was nothing he could do. He prescribed a strong anti inflammatory and left. There was no plan, no information regarding length of time on the meds, or a follow up appointment. I had to call one of his staff for a "plan". On my 4th call I finally told that he would write me a prescription for some PT and I should see one of his associates. I am so disappointed with the lack of information or a plan for my problem, that I will not make another appointment with him or his clinic. I am a professional and if I treated my "customers" like this, I would be unemployed.
