Dr. Thomas DeBerardino MD is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon and retired U.S. Army Colonel based in San Antonio, Texas. With more than 35 years of expertise in sports medicine, he specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, and hip as well as advanced reconstructive procedures.
Dr. DeBerardino earned his B.S. at the United States Military Academy at West Point (1985) and his M.D. from New York Medical College. He completed his internship and orthopaedic residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, then pursued a two-year John A. Feagin, Jr. Sports Medicine Fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center and Keller Army Hospital. As Chief of Sports Medicine at Brooke AMC and later Head Team Physician at West Point Athletics, he honed his skills treating elite athletes and service members.
After retiring from the Army in 2009, Dr. DeBerardino served seven years as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Assistant Sports …Medicine Fellowship Director at the University of Connecticut Medical Center, where he also cared for UConn’s athletic teams. In 2016 he returned to San Antonio and now holds the title of Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Health San Antonio, guiding residents, fellows, and colleagues in the latest joint-preserving techniques.
A pioneer in both open and arthroscopic knee and shoulder procedures, Dr. DeBerardino has authored over 95 peer-reviewed papers and numerous book chapters. He regularly speaks at national and international symposia, sharing research on clinical outcomes and surgical innovations.

This was the most amazing surgeon I have ever met... and sadly I have met many... He treats you like a human being....I find myself in Ks missing and needing his expertise, we are overbooked here and in need of good health care people... you are lucky if you can see this man!!! Heis work on my knee is exceptional its a fresh new car wreck that has upset elbow, and irritated knee among other things... My gut tells me to find a way to see him even 12 hours away... thats how good and how much I came to respect this man... I have no idea on his new place or staff, I hope they compliment his nature...
