Dr. Thomas A. Dennison, MD

I don’t know where the doctor is that got all these great reviews, but I certainly didn’t get him. I decided to see him based on all the good reviews he got. I was told my first appointment could be anyway from 45-60 minutes. It lasted just barely 30, and half of that time included him asking run of the mill questions like ‘Family history of heart disease? Any surgeries? Do you smoke? Do you drink?’ even though I already answered all of those on the initial intake forms. He never asked how long I had been suffering from depression and anxiety. Never asked how it started. Never asked much of anything you’d expect a doctor to when taking a history. I wasted a year seeing him when I could have been seeing a better doctor. He continued trying SSRI after SSRI and other antidepressants despite knowing I was previously diagnosed bipolar. The last antidepressant he had me on without a mood stabilizer caused me to have severe ups and downs that got to the point of me calling the nurse help… line because I was overwhelmed with suicidal thoughts. Prior to that he even started recommending over the counter products instead. Why am I wasting a copay worth of money to see a specialist for something I could have googled? I’m seeing a much better psychiatrist now. He took one look at my medication history and said he didn’t understand why my last doctor kept prescribing those when there were other groups of meds he could have tried. Dr. Dennison is a nice person but his ability to treat and knowledge of medication seems very limited.

Dr. Dennison has always been prompt in returning my calls. It is very hard to schedule an appointment with him due to the lack of other psychiatrist at the DeKalb Clinic. He is very understanding and helpful when discussing any and all problems. I highly recommend him.
