Dr. Thomas William Ericksen, MD

This doctor, Dr Ericksen, has been my family’s doctor for as long as I’ve been alive. My dad, now deceased, spoke so highly of him which made me, a young woman, trust his care. I went to the office for an annual checkup, no concerns whatsoever, just wanted some labs drawn. The dr took 45min to come into the appointment, which I was fine with, as I work at a doctor’s office myself and understand wait times. My nurse, Nikki was and has always been great. She is very kind, personable, and makes me feel comfortable everytime I have ever been there. Nikki is familiar with my family history and the genetic diseases processes Dr. Ericksen was overseeing. Dr Ericksen came in my room, started off asking why I was there. I told him routine checkup, I didn’t need anything in particular evaluated, but because of my disease process (Dilated Cardiomyopathy) I expected him to listen to my heart, to which he didn’t. He immediately asks “Do you think you should weigh this much?” To which I said; no,… I don’t. I have been more active recently and going to the gym to work on myself. Dr responds “do you nickname random places “gym” so you can say you actually go?” ….. Hurtful, and fairly disrespectful. Felt really unprofessional, especially when he knows my heart disease has significantly limited me and my activity (dr order) my entire life. BUT then he begins showing me a YOUTUBE video about how people from the 60s/70s/80s were all active and slim, they didn’t have to try to stay fit. But nowadays, everyone is overweight and stuck on their phones/TV. He follows up this video with, “This is a great video, but let me tell you the real reason this has happened” (talking about obesity / lack of activity in America). “Feminism”. Dr Ericksen proceeds to tell me that women competing with men constantly is why the cycle started; where people eat junk food, sit around and do nothing. So inappropriate, and SO inaccurate. I asked him how feminism was to blame for these issues… and somehow not the government, or the food industry, genetics or the media, or even just case-by-case situations. Proceeds to explain how women should’ve just stayed home and not worked, because when they get home they are so tired they just feed their kids “junk and shove him in front of a TV.” I was speechless. As a woman in a professional career, SEEKING medical exams, this felt like an attack. He continues to go on about how everything is a competition men vs woman, how a woman is “going to be a nurse before an engineer.” I discussed how there are female and male dominated fields and that’s ok! I myself know a female nurse and a female engineer. He raised his voice, “THATS NOT TRUE. They always chose nursing.” This conversation continued to go farther and farther downhill until my nurse walked in the room, ASKING IF i NEEDED RESCUED. To which I said, “YES. I don’t know how we even got to this conversation!!” Dr then looked at me and said “Bye!” and i left. I won’t be back to this office, except to collect my records. I HOPE Dr Ericksen decides to retire SOON because this outdated mindset will catch up to him. I feel tremendously bad for the women who work alongside him, possibly not realizing his position on their professionalism, and the apparent competition. Just disgusting dialect when 1) I didn’t ask, 2) I was there for my professional exam and we are getting political

I absolutely love Dr. Tom.! I spent most of my life being "anti doctor". But as I got older doctor visits could not be avoided. He treated my first husband, Hod definitely used Erickson as a tool when I was blessed with having my dad around for seven years longer then I should have! That 7 years gave me a chance to meet a sober dad for the first time, and they were a great 7 years full of love and forgiveness. Erickson treats my husband, my sister as well as a couple more days members. He diagnosed me with my MS when plenty of other doctors should have caught it. He is loving, caring, compassionate....and not afraid to give you heck for not following his orders. I have laughed with him and he has seen me at my worse when I've just needed to cry. Being a doctor is definitely his calling and I don't think you will find another like him anywhere. I seen on Feb.20, 2016 someone left him one star. To not see what a blessing this man is you must have A. Had drug seeking behavior (he doesn't… play that) B. He was tired of you not following his orders because c. He's not going to waste his time caring more about your health then you do. That's a shame really, because I doubt you will ever find a doctor that cares more for you then Dr. Erickson. I count him as one of my top blessings. I love him to pieces, even when he's not in the best of moods with me.

My family and I have been patients with him for over 20 years. He is the most caring wonderful person, and wonderfully brilliant internist I have met in all my years. I'm sure my family would all agree.
