Dr. Thomas H Hickerson, MD

I have seen this MD for many years (25+) and am always amazed at how he listens to my concerns and pays close attention to whatever illness I come in with, no matter how minor. I have a number of close friends who also see Dr. Hickerson and all uniformly have had positive experiences. I can recall one friend who went in for a routine appointment and Dr. Hickerson recognized a melanoma, likely saving his life. He is a truly great physician who has been a part of our community for so many years. I hope he never retires.

Dr. Hickerson, indeed, has a good bedside manner and shows interest in the health and well-being of his patients and their families, however (and this is a BIG one), he completely dismissed a lump in my mother's breast, which was ultimately diagnosed as Stage 4 breast cancer. This doctor has been our family doctor for over 25 years so she trusted him when she came to him concerned about a big lump she felt. He told her it felt like "normal dense breast tissue" to him and casually advised her to keep an eye on it and that she could go in for a mammogram if she wanted peace of mind, but he didn't feel it was necessary. She took his advise but when she saw dimpling a year later, my father was the one to insist on imaging. My mother, sadly, did not survive this horrible (yet PREVENTABLE, through early detection) disease. Sorry to say but I would NEVER, in good conscience, recommend this doctor, beyond minor scrapes and scratches.

I have seen this Dr . for about 6 months and I think he is outstanding , coming from a household of Registered Nurses , My Mother worked In ICU for years , and St. Francis Hospital in Peoria , Ill .
