Dr. Thomas Lewis Lyons, MD

I met Dr. Lyons on Nov. 30, 1977. He delivered my son, Zach, by Csection. I believe that was his first C section, and my doctor was observing. He was fantastic. I believe that he had a son named Zach, too.

I met Dr Lyons when he opened his practice in Atlanta. Over the years, I have found him to be patient, willing to take the time to answer questions, and an outstanding doctor. He also is a doctor that I recommend to my friends.

My surgery was a complete success. Having surgery by him was a life changing event. I felt better right away. Although my husband insisted that we stay in a hotel close to Dr.Lyons office for a few days before taking a flight back to metro Detroit .And our Brighton, Mi. Home. I will be forever grateful for the skill and care I received from this wonderful caring physician. Sincerely Gloria J. Tiano

Wonderful man & doctor. He did surgery on me in 2002 and I truly wish I could return to him for the pelvic issues I'm having now!

I was referred to him from a specialist that stopped practicing, so I thought I was in good hands. Think again.. I gave him the benefit of the doubt since he came highly recommended. I waited forever to see him which is not the first impression you want to give. Second, he was standoffish with me when I met with him regarding how bad I was in pain and how he doesn't do surgery first thing. I did an ultrasound and exam and it hurt very badly and he could finally see. So, we scheduled surgery to remove the endometriosis, remove my appendix and any cysts. Well I had been on a lower dose pain medicine to manage my pain from my pcp and he would not fill it. He gave me toredol and told me that would help. So I filled that and the pharmacist asked me why I got so many and how long I was going to take them. I told her and she said that is not good and it can damage your stomach/liver and cause internal bleeding. Great! So I tried taking them per script and lo and behold my stomach started… hurting after 2 days. More like a pain. So I quit taking them. So surgery comes and he was nice and understanding and so were the nurses. After surgery another story. I felt like I was discarded, like last nights supper. I woke up in a lot of pain and the nurse was saying I needed to get up and moving so I could go home. Ok. So when she gave me my discharge papers I had no pain meds or anything to manage pain after being punctured 3 times from laparoscopy. I told the nurse I wasn't leaving til I got a script. This nurse downright lied to me and my husband and told me she called it into the pharmacy. Ok. I believed her I had to reason not to. So I get home and it's not called in. I called the hospital to speak with this nurse and they kept saying she was busy. If it wasn't so far away I would've went back up there or my husband would have. Who does that???!! I called the dr the next day. I mean constantly!!! I was really ticked off by this point. Thank God I finally got him to call me back and he said I shouldn't be in enough pain to need pain meds. Really? I put my life in your hands and you basically tell me get a life. So I said yes I'm in a lot of pain why do you think I'm crying and calling every hour? So he said fine I'll call you in the lowest dose pain medicine. I said anything is better than nothing.... Well needless to say after a week I called about my post op visit. I didn't care to see or even talk to this guy again. They said I could do it over the phone. Again, I've never heard of this, seeing as though they usually want to check your incisions and press on your abdomen. So I did it over the phone and I could tell he didn't want to talk with me either. So I never went back and would never recommend him to anyone. EVER! Still had many issues afterwards. If you are thinking about seeing this dr don't waste your time. Do more research. There are better Drs out there or ask around by verbal recommendations.

I was very happy with Dr. Lyons. He did a great job. He was very good at explaining what was going on and why I had to have a hysterectomy which was due to cancer. The staff always took me in as soon as I walked in. I never had to wait.

I went to see Dr Lyon in 2015 for hormonal imbalance. The one good thing I will say is that he will spend time with you and explain female hormones but he refused to return my calls and got defensive when I told his nurse i wanted to explore bioidentical alternatives to treat me. He refused any prescriptions I requested and became very defensive when I stated I was seeing a bioidentical doctor. His office nurse is defensive and has horrible communication skills. Good luck getting in and out as you will sit and sit and sit in the waiting area.

I came in to see Dr. Lyons expecting the worst of my situation. I was bleeding 3 weeks out of the month and had no clue what could be wrong with me. I have five children, never had to have a c-section, and have not really had any problems with my cycles while growing up. I talked to Dr. Lyons and he was very attentive in my questions and wanting to find out what was wrong with me. During my examination he did a transvaginal ultrasound and said that there was a possiblity that I had Adenomyosis and I could try taking care of it with birth control or surgery. Well, since I had never had surgery I wanted to make that my last choice and took the medication route. The medication route only lasted one month and I decided enough is enough and opted for the surgery. I had a LSH done with an incision in my belly button and three little incisions in my bikini area. The day after my surgery I was up walking around (a little sore of course), but was excited knowing that I just had major… surgery and felt great. When I went to my 2 week post-op and got my pathology it was confirmed that I had adenomyosis. It has been a year since my surgery and I feel like a new woman. I love Dr. Lyons and Cheryl his nurse!!

I like Dr. Lyons and his staff a great deal. He has a very pleasant and comfortable, and I might say stylish office. Wait times are pretty short and staff makes you aware they know you are there. Dr. Lyons is unhurried yet efficient, and is very pleasant. Also when I needed surgery, this doctor saved me a GREAT deal of discomfort and down time by using his lapscope surgery (about 40 minutes). I had no trouble with the five tiny incisions and they have left no scarring at all. It was a 23 hour admissions at a small local hospital, and I went home in the car. He gave me 30 pain pills and told me when I got to the last one I wouldn't need any more, and he was exactly correct. My problem was solved and my down time was less than two weeks. Compare this to the recommendations of two other doctors I saw first, who said I needed an open incision, removal of all my female organs...to be "safe"...and about 6 weeks or more of down time with an abdominal incision which with the… cutting of those muscles is always painful and requiring lots of pain meds and about 5-7 days in the hospital. Needless to say I was VERY happy to find I was just as safe without losing all my organs (I kept the left ovary and avoided instant menopause) and have had no trouble since. On follow-up visits they call me by my first name and Dr. Lyons and his nurses remember who I am. The last time I was there it was almost like old home week, even though I've not needed any further treatment and only go in for routine care. This doctor was trained in college as a psychologist which I think has made him the compassionate and caring doctor that he is. This talented fellow became a doctor (in the off-seasons when he was a professional football player following college. Fortunately he correctly assessed his life was just beginning, and he has now become not only an excellent and well-known surgeon, with many professional articles to his credit, he also teaches his now perfected procedure to experienced physicians in his office and at times travels overseas and teaches there, too. The procedure is still considered "new", yet, as the video tape of my procedure-he gave me a copy- clearly shows he can see VERY well inside the patient through those five tiny little incisions. There is practically no bleeding in the operative field, and the surgery is over with quickly and efficiently I have nothing but praise for Dr. Lyons and for what he is doing for us women, and would recommend him and his team to anyone without reservation. His staff is super as well. Who remembers what you said last time you were there when it has been more than a year? Cheryl never fails to ask me about my mother, who also used to see Dr. Lyons. If you need a GYN doctor, you have found him. If you need surgery, you have definitely found him!! And they are so incredibly nice to you, even when you become routine. He has an easily accessible office off of Hammond Ave. and parking is free. And they have an elevator for people like me with bum knees. Thanks Dr. Lyons!
