Dr. Thomas R Madison, DDS

Thomas R. Madison, D.D.S., received his certificate of Periodontics at the Oregon Health Science University in 1991. He has been in private practice near the Portland Convention Center with services in all methods of both surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy and dental implants. Dr. Madison placed the first implants ever placed in the Graduate Periodontal Program.
Dr. Madison is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Diplomate Status is achieved by being examined by an international board of leaders in the field of periodontics. Successful completion requires the highest degree of knowledge, skill and experience in periodontics. Only a minority of periodontists have achieved this level of certification.
Dr. Madison received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Stony Brook is recognized as one of the top 10 public universities in America. He received his dental degree from the State University of New York …at Buffalo, College of Dentistry. This dental school is recognized as a leader in the field of periodontics and research. While attending dental school, he won the William Tucker Scholarship for high academic achievement and graduated in the top percentage of his class.
He went on to Dayton, Ohio and completed a General Dental Hospital Residency. He then taught full time at the University of Kentucky, College of Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Occlusion for 5 years.  Restorative dentistry comprises most of the procedures and services provided by a general dentist.  Dr. Madison then ventured overseas for the next 5 years where he was a full time Hospital Dental Consultant at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  While there, he founded and directed a hospital dental residency for Saudi dentists. This was the first program of this type in the Kingdom.
Although Dr. Madison is in full time private practice, he has continued to teach in several capacities. He has served as a consultant to the OHSU Hospital Dental service, acting as a mentor to residents and treating patients with significant medical challenges such as organ transplant, cancer and advanced systemic diseases that can only safely be treated in a hospital environment. He has lectured to dentists and hygienists at the local, statewide and international level, and he has also run numerous study clubs in both the field of periodontics and implants.
Dr. Madison has served his dental profession as the President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Oregon Society of Periodontics and directed the continuing education for his peers. He also serves as a State Board Examiner in Periodontics for Oregon.
On a Personal Note:
Dr Madison enjoys his family life with his wife and 2 children. An Oregonian since 1989, his hobbies and interests include fly-fishing, tying flies, gardening, cooking hiking, squash, golf, reading, classic cars, theatre, symphony and travel. Since venturing overseas he has traveled in over 30 countries on 6 continents.
