Dr. Thomas M Mcgovern JR., MD

Dr. McGovern saved my life in 2017. I found him caring, to the point and with a great sense of humor. I now find myself needing surgery again (for different reason), would allow anyone but him to do my next surgery. Highly Recommend.

I was present for my family member’s surgery and the majority of their hospitalization. What I observed was a lack of empathy for his patient, failing to listen his patient or their family members, and not adequately treating post-surgical pain. My family member was in pain for days after necessary, not elective surgery. The need for surgery was validated by numerous tests and x-rays. My family member is a highly educated working individual. Every patient is not a drug addict and should be treated on an individual basis. He also failed to return phone calls concerning medical problems or for impending appointments.

I was admitted to UT Tyler with pancreatitis, gallstones, and kidney stones. Dr. McGovern was to be my surgeon, and as awful as he spoke to me, and treated me like those people who are "drug seekers", which I certainly am not, I genuinely was extremely sick, and after being threatened to be thrown out of the hospital if Dr. McGovern heard that I had gone past the nurses station, and making the statement that I would be drug tested because he did not trust me(by this time, I had been under UT care for 4 days), I do understand to a certain point all doctors and health care workers are bombarded with drug seekers, however, Dr. McGowan went above and beyond to treat me horribly, and make me truly fear for my life if he had anything more to do with my medical care. I did ask that my mother be on speaker phone when any of my doctors came in, because I was on some very strong pain medication, and I knew I wasn't going to retain the important information, therefore, I wanted my husband or… mother to be a part of the conversations when any of the doctors came to visit with me, Dr. McGovern rolled his eyes like a child rolls their eyes at a parent, I found that to be the most unprofessional behavior from a doctor I have ever seen. I truly feared for my well being and life when I thought that he was going to be my only option for a surgeon. This man has no right to treat people the way he does. I was already really really sick, and then to have him behave the way he did, and truthfully for no good reason, I will never forget the worst thing in the world that happened to me, I guess you never forget the first time you truly are afraid to die. Please avoid him at all cost!

Best doctor in east Texas! He is compassionate and caring and spent over an hour talking to me each visit! He saved my life! Best doctor in Texas! He even called me at home to check on me

This Dr is arrogant and unkind to his patients. My daughter was in the hospital and I was speaking to Dr. MCGOVERN ON THE PHONE ABOUT HER CARE. HE KEPT ROLLING HIS EYE'S MY DAUGHTER SAID although he was being decent to me after giving her a lot of grief. I intend to report his antics to the medical board. We was very mean and hateful to my daughter until I got on the phone...then did his eye rolls. Unprofessional.

Dr McGovern was the only doctor that would take my case and do my surgery while I was already in the hospital. He even came in to meet me after midnight when he was done with his rounds to let me know that he was going to take care of me. He did just that. My follow up visit was exactly to the minute when it was scheduled for and he literally had me in and out in no time. He has a GREAT personality and makes me feel super comfortable. I would definitely recommend him to anyone!

Lack of communication! Did surgery, which we are grateful and paid for, but couldn't get a follow up with him or get him to call us to schedule a follow-up. Very frustrating! Request another surgeon!

He literally saved my life. He is very "old school", and by the book. What he says generally goes....but he is a genius....so I found his stubbornness charming.

He performed an emergency appendectomy on my son and was caring, knowledgeable and prompt.

The very best,took my case when no one else would. Two different kinds of cancer at the same time,thyroid and lung. No stone left unturned concering your health,right to the point and no sugar coating.
