Dr. Thomas Kevin Mckean, MD

I've been with Dr.McKean since his earliest years. He is one of the few Ph.d’s around. He is my sixth psychiatrist, as I fired the first five. Extremely well informed, on top of the latest and most innovative treatments I’ve heard he is in great demand on the speaking circuits. Working together as a team he and I have overcome and continue to meet the the challenges of my diagnosis of Bipolar mixed and seasonal depression. Dr. Mckean has gone to great lengths to rigorously find a “cocktail “of meds.that work for me. I’ve found that in his field he is the very best.

Horrible difficulty to get anyone live to return calls or schedule appointments. Had to go to the office in person to just get an appointment scheduled as repeated calls were not returned. Later when I had an emergency in regard to the meds he prescribed, he was not responsive to my urgent calls. Can be okay in face to face meeting but needs lots of changes in his scheduling and responsiveness to patients needs

very patient and concern about getting me well and listing to what i have to say and giving me options, he is not a pill pusher and does not make you do things that are uncomfortable. I have recommend several of my friends suffering from the same issues to help

Dr. Mckean will not admit to making a wrong diagnosis. I have been going to him for 15 years. I was diagnosed with depression at age 28 and was not treated with another Dr. I have several diagnosis and he will not admit to making a wrong diagnosis so my treatment is not working and I stay on the verge of a breakdown every day of my life. He does not give you the time you pay for. He told me he did not have time due to patient load. How do you think I felt. I am on the verge of a breakdown and he will not admit he has made a wrong diagnosis regarding one of them. Therefore, my meds do not work right and I am not feeling any better than I did 15 years ago. I am so scared. Run from this Dr.

I have been a patient for 2 years. I was referred to him by my therapist who is extremely well respected in this town. He said Dr. McKean was the best psychiatrist to see and was the "go to" guy when my therapist had questions about medication. My therapist said it would probably take me about 3 months to be seen the first time and that was true. Dr. Mckean is extremely well informed about medications and is right on top of the very latest available drugs that are FDA approved and effective. Quick mind and gets right to the point and will tell you exactly what he thinks in a supportive way - but if you play games he will call you on it. He is not mean, but he won't waste your or his time. In my lifetime (50+ years), he is about my 7th psychiatrist (I have lived in several states) and the brightest and strongest I have met. He told me if I ever needed help, to call and they would get him immediately. They did. I have had some problems getting calls returned - but only twice… waiting for a day. Usually call is returned by him between 4pm and 5pm. Sometimes his staff will call me for him with the answer I need which works for me. I feel he a strong backup for me and the guy I want there to back me up in a crisis. He reacts quickly - his mind moves VERY quickly.I have fired two psychiatrists in the past who I felt would never be there for me in a crisis and I was right. I would not hesitate to see a new psychiatrist if I did not trust Dr. McKean. But, I feel very safe with him. I know he will be there for me. I trust him totally.

Made Me worse,egomaniac,never will admit any mistakes made by Himself or His staff.He said Metlife never faxed any paper in a 3 month period which was a lie,so I didn't receive any short term disability income for 3 months,then I had to threatened to bring a lawyer.I cried to him to fill out papers cause I didn't have any money to buy My medicine.He didn't care.Pathetic Dr.

Not satisfied with this place or physician. He rushes you out of each appointment within ten minutes which is pretty sad when you're paying $150 each appointment. Secondly, the staff, never returns phone calls. You should be able to call your doctor's office and talk to a live human being! They don't accept in-bound phone calls here, so you have to leave a message and someone may, or may not, return your phone call.

Very well run office. Seen on time. Staff extremely attentive, gentle, and patient. Dr. McKean extremely on top of current medications and why he thinks it is good or not good for you. Very upfront and tells you what he thinks in a supportive way. Does not waste your time. Fee is currently $175 for 15 minute visit, but it is an intense and thorough 15 minute. Extremely knowledgeable abut drugs.
