Dr. Thomas John Mckenna, MD

Dr. McKenna is a great doctor.

I was referred to Dr. McKenna almost a year ago following my first major surgery (resection rectopexy). My surgeon felt I had underlying issues with my bowels, and felt Dr. McKenna would be a good fit for me. He was completely right. Initially, I did not know what to expect, and at first felt Dr. McKenna was as puzzled as me as to what was really going on with me; however, he listened, asked a lot of clarifying questions, was patient, and tried multiple attempts with medication regimes to try to find improvement. When medications did not work, we would try different attempts. He never gave up on me. After medications did not appear to be working, he referred me for further testing for his suspicion of what was going on with me, and sent me to Temple, where he had spent substantial time for his residency. After the testing, his suspicions were correct, and he remained by my side with answering any and all questions, in addition to helping me manage my symptoms and pain until my… surgery. If I had a question or concern, he encouraged me to call the office, and he always returned my calls promptly, never rushing me off the phone. He contacted and talked to my surgeon of choice when it was time to take the next step toward scheduling a colectomy. After my colectomy surgery, he was visiting me at the hospital, trying to ramify my post-surgical nausea and sickness, which he was patient w/ but successful in treating. All in all, if you are looking for someone to take their time with you, listen, be analytic, and patient, Dr. McKenna is an excellent choice. He will not rush you out the door and will not make you feel like your problems do not matter. Instead, he will help you in anyway he can. Highly recommend.
