Dr. Rams is board-certified as a Diplomate of the …American Board of Periodontology, and holds Diplomate status with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
In addition to part-time private practice of periodontics on Mondays in Washington, DC, Dr. Rams is presently the Paul H. Keyes Professor of Periodontology in the Department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology at Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia, where he also serves as Director of the Oral Microbiology Testing Service Laboratory. He previously served the dental school as Senior Associate Dean (2004-2008), Associate Dean for Advanced Education and Research (1999-2004), and Chairman of the Department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology (1996-2010). Dr. Rams also holds appointments as Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Temple University School of Medicine, and as Professor of Oral Biology at Temple University Graduate School.
Dr. Rams received a Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching at Temple University (2007), and an American Academy of Periodontology Educator Award for outstanding university teaching in periodontics (2008).
Dr. Rams is recognized for his research on periodontal diagnostic techniques, human periodontal and dental implant microbiology, non-surgical microbiologically modulated antimicrobial periodontal therapy, and clinical application of systemic and local antimicrobial agents in periodontal therapy. He co-edited the monographs “Systemic and Topical Antimicrobial Therapy in Periodontics†(1996) and “Global Epidemiology of Periodontal Diseases†(2002), and has co-authored over 75 journal articles/book chapters, and over 120 research abstracts, in the dental scientific literature.
