Dr. Thomas L Salazer, MD

My mother was a longtime patient of Dr. Salazar for many years. After a complicated spine surgery sequence left her fragile, we brought her recent CT/MRI, lab results (GFR 17) and hospital notes to him because we trusted his reputation. He initially told us he would help and said she needed an EMG — then, under apparent pressure from the hospital, he reversed course, stopped advocating, and ultimately dropped her from his practice while she was hospitalized and unable to find a replacement. During that time she repeatedly received dangerous IV diuretics and treatment decisions that worsened her kidney function. She was hospitalized repeatedly, spent 45 days in the hospital, and ultimately her kidneys were destroyed — she’s now on dialysis three times a week. She can no longer manage her insulin pump and her quality of life is destroyed. She was 82 — this should never have happened. He said he would sue the hospital for what they were doing — then he fell in line. From where I sit,… patients aren’t protected when doctors bow to institutional pressure. I’m posting this so anyone who trusts their doctors to speak up will know to document everything, demand second opinions, and be extremely cautious if a long-standing physician suddenly “drops” a seriously ill patient. (This is our family’s experience — we have everything documented to support what we’re saying.)

Doctor Salazer is a terrific doctor, and recently he may have saved my life. I started seeing him a few years ago as my GP upon the recommendation from a trusted friend. He was always very good. I have always felt welcomed and supported by the staff, in what is a very busy practice. Recently I had a symptom related to his specialty -- kidney function/ nephrology. He immediately sent me to tests to investigate the symptom, where others might have taken a "wait and see" approach. When the symptom led to a very serious diagnosis, Dr. Salazer engaged leading doctors in Hackensack University Medical Center to see me through the full diagnostic and surgical process. Since then, he has been tracking my recovery, and recommending various respected specialists to cover all the bases. In addition, Dr. Salazer has a super competent partner, Dr. Levine, who provided friendly, responsive and expert guidance when providing coverage when Dr. Salazer was unavailable.

Been going to see Dr. Thomas Salazer for the past 10 years. He is the most wonderful doctor you can have. But the staff at Nephrology Associates have the worst attitude. They are the nastiest staff I have ever met. They are not at all helpful. They speak down to the patients and also charge you for appointments that they do not remind you to keep. The reason I have put up with the staff, has been because of Dr. Salazer. But they have push to far. Now they talk nasty to my pharmacist, medical insurance and other staff of specialist doctors. This is totally unacceptable. I believe they should do away with this staff starting from the staff manager Robin.

My father was gravely il and he was told in HUMC that he must have Dialysis... I told the doctor he was fired and I would not accept that. I informed my fathers doctor to find someone new. There came Dr Salazar and in 48 hours my father was fine. I can not describe his intelligence and bedside manner but he is excellent.

A truly great physician both in knowledge as well as bedside manner. He is a busy doctor who still spends the time to answer all your questions and is available whenever a need arises. He is always there when you are in the hospital and concerns himself as though you are his only patient. I highly recommend Dr. Salazer as well as his office staff to all. Richard DeSanto

The most thorough, intelligent and kind doctor you could ever have!!!

I have a slew of doctors, from cardiologist,endocrinologist,dermatologist, you name it, it seems I've got one for every part of my body. Dr. Salazer is one of the most thorough and caring doctors around. I've also worked in a hospital for many years and have known many doctors. He is one of the nicest doctor you could work with. I would highly recommend Dr. Salazer as an internest or nephrologist!!!!
