Dr. Thomas Medrick Sweeney II, MD

Tried for 3 weeks to get an appointment. First the Staff told me my medical insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield was invalid) - my husband is in the medical field and our insurance is certainly not invalid. Had to call several times. When I received a call back to make an appointment, the woman was so condescending and rude, I told her I had no interest in going there due to her negativity. She spoke to me like I was an idiot and again stated that everything took so long because my insurance information was invalid. I AGAIN told her she was mistaken and the insurance (which is now "valid") is the SAME number/info that they previously kept saying was "old & invalid". Not impressed at all and I certainly don't need attitude from office staff. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Even my staff couldn't believe how she spoke to me, as I had her on speaker so I could check my calendar!

I had neck surgery 10 years ago, To write my whole story would be a long book, but to make it short, I woke up one morning and for a year and a half I thought my life was over, I was 38 years old with all kinds of neurological crazy stuff happening, I was in pain and mentally losing it. I went to all kinds of doctors just praying somebody would listen to me and help me rather then make me feel like I crazy and it was all in my head. I was at my lowest after seeing two different spine doctors in Vero and they told me they don't see anything that needs surgery. I honestly wanted to die. It wasn't till a neighbor blew a disk in his neck and found Doctor Sweeney, he begged me to go see him, I didn't want to at first because I couldn't take another doctor turning me down and telling me there is nothing wrong with you. Finally I decided to see him, He listened to what I had to say, he did xrays and MRIs on me. When he talked to me he did say I had some degenerative disc issues in in my… neck and Spondylolisthesis in my lumbar but he didn't see anything that bad that would cause what I was going through, but he said some people are sensitive all we can do I is go in and fix it and hope it solves my problem, what area you want to fix first? I wanted to ball my eyes out right there because he was willing to try and help me, I told him my neck, I feel because its my whole body it has to be coming from there. I went for surgery and when I woke up, I knew I had my life back instantly. My husband told me Dr. Sweeney came out of surgery and told him it was not showing up on any of the imaging but I had a large bone spur poking into the back of my spinal cord. He fixed my neck and got rid of that spur and Lisa had her life back. Even now I cry when I tell everybody I thank God this man took a chance on me and listened rather then just go by what test say. How damaged my nerves would be and I am amazed my nerves did heal considering I suffered for a year and a half with that. In my case test don't always tell the truth. I will be forever grateful. What got me to this review is I am having some issues again, and I might be headed back to doctor Sweeney if we cant get it under control locally. The best part this time around is even though I am having problems again and some of those same scary symptoms, I am not scared this time, I have no anxiety, I don't feel like nobody is out there to help me, I know Doctor Sweeney is there and if I cant get things better locally I know I have a place to go that will take care of me :) Oh and besides doctor Sweeney being amazing, the Office, staff, hospital, and nurses were all completely amazing.

As a person of size, Dr Sweeney did not judge, and suggested surgeries which would help my pain. He in my opinion, is very trustworthy and I have had three surgeries (neck and back), if I need more in the future....he is my choice!

The pain in my back got so bad over almost 2 years that it changed my life. Dr. Sweeney performed his minimal invasive surgery and made all the pain disappear. The minute I awoke the pain was gone, no "recovery", no hassle! He did a great job for me. M J Norman

I have been seeing Dr. Sweeney for 2 years. We have done everything that can be done without surgery. I will be seeing him shortly for minimally invasive robotic surgery. My husband had the surgery done last year with good results.

very good dr, I would say the best around , I didn't have surgery by him yet, but if I do, I will go with him, I like how he cares and gets to the bottom of the problem!

I saw Dr Sweeney about 5 months ago. I felt so confident with him I signed up for him to reconstruct my T10-S1. As far as his staff, I understand busy but these girls have absolutely NO COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THEM. THEY LOSE VERY VALUABLE INFO, TESTS ETC. THEY LIE ABOUT TALKING WITH HIM AND WHAT THE STATUS IS OF YOUR CASE. IT TOOK THEM ANOTHER 4 MONTHS AND 3 DR APPTS TO GET IT STRAIGHT FOR MY SURGERY THIS THURSDAY. THE INCOMPETENCE OF HIS STAFF IS SCARY. WHO IN THE WORLD CALLS A PATIENT ON A FRIDAY@453PM AND SAYS DO YOU HAVE YOUR MRI? (WHEN MY APPT IS MONDAY AM AND I LIVE ON OTHER SIDE IF STATE) UM NO YOU DO , I TOLD YOU FROM DAY 1 I WANT HIM TO HEAL ME SO WHY WOULD I HAVE IT? YOU'VE HAD IT FROM DAY ONE, SO WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN TELLING ME HE HAS BEEN REVIEWING FOR 4 MONTHS ?WHEN YOU SEE A SPECIALIST LIKE SWEENEY YOU HAVE TO HAVE ALL CURRENT TESTS RIGHT? SO WHY WOULD I HAVE IT, Then I call to tell his nurse to put a hold on it for a possible heart problem, she proceeds to tell me about… her history. A few weeks later she say she never talked to me about my heart. I said really then how do i know youve had heart issues and a stroke. Honey not my first rodeo. I could perform my own fusion if it were physically possible. Dr Sweeney couldn't believe what I knew. If I didnt have the faith in this man I would of run so fast. They even screwed my moms paperwork and lost her films. Complete incompetence in his staff.

Dr. Sweeney performed an unsuccessful microdiscectormy surgery that had to be re-done by another surgeon. Word around town is that this happens often with Dr. Sweeneys' surgeries.

I have had Dr. Sweeney working on my back since 1998 (Operated on 1 disc) and again in 2010 for 5. Not only a great surgeon, it's great to walk again without fear of falling down, but actually cares about you. All of his staff are great people. To Dr.Sweeney, Donna, and the rest of the staff thank you for everything you have done for me and I tell anyone who asks who go to. Thank you all.
