Summary

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

In 1995, after doing psychiatric hospital work with adolescents and adults, and running a small office practice, I joined Kaiser to have the opportunity to think less about business and more about the practice of medicine. I have not been disappointed. I began working at the Roseville and Rancho Cordova clinics and in 2000, I was appointed chief of the Psychiatry Department and moved my office to our Morse Avenue clinic.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

There are many things I like about practicing medicine at Kaiser Permanente. First of all, it is a doctor-run practice. I am the one who makes the decisions about which tests to order, which treatments to prescribe, and when to schedule return appointments. While we do our best to use your healthcare dollars wisely, each doctor is free to make treatment decisions that he or she thinks will best benefit each individual patient. Secondly, I enjoy the team approach of working with colleagues in mental health and other specialties to provide the best healthcare possible. I already mentioned that I like focusing on medicine instead of business. And Kaiser has great information management systems that are getting better all the time. I guess you can tell that I am a Kaiser booster, but what would you expect?

As department chief, some of my time is spent on administrative work although treating patients remains an important and rewarding part of my job. Much of my clinical work is currently with the Bipolar Program and the Depression Program at the Sacramento clinic on Morse Avenue. I also treat adult patients with a variety of conditions, as well as children and adolescents.

About Myself

I graduated from UC Davis School of Medicine and did my psychiatry training at the UC San Diego. I moved back to Sacramento in 1990, and joined Kaiser in 1995. My wife, Catherine, also graduated from medical school at UC Davis and is a Kaiser pediatrician at the Rancho Cordova clinic. We have three daughters, though only the youngest, a high school student, is still at home.

Ensuring Data Transparency and Trust: A Guide to Vitals Doctor Listings and Reviews

Our provider data is gathered directly from physicians and publicly available databases. Providers who verify their profiles gain the ability to update information, offering additional details about their specialties, education, treated conditions, performed procedures, and accepted insurances.

Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.

Your feedback is highly valued and we encourage you to contact our support team should you encounter any issues.
