Dr. Thomas Edward Werth, MD

I can't begin to describe how apprehensive I was about this visit. But it started with his staff putting me at ease-- not doing anything, specifically, but just by being friendly and competent. He himself was friendly, open, willing to talk and listen, and incredibly experienced. He gets five stars for punctuality because he started all of three minutes late. Three minutes! Has a busy doctor ever been that close to on time in history? Given my concerns about a colonoscopy, I'd say that this was as good a possible interaction for which I could have possibly hoped.

I have no doubt that Dr Werth is a competent doctor, but his bedside manner leaves much to be desired. At my new patient visit, he was absolutely the worst part. After getting my vitals taken and having talked to the nurse practitioner, I waited over 20 minutes for Dr Werth. He acted like I should be honored to be in his presence, talked down to me, and basically reiterated what the nurse practitioner told me. I feel like I got the same rehearsed talk that he must give to everyone with my condition. I will not be going back to see him.

I had a colonoscopy scheduled with Dr Werth. His intern/fellow did the procedure without my consent. I know this because I woke up 3 times during the procedure in excruciating pain and heard him giving instructions to the fellow (who was sick with a cold at the time of my procedure). It was not my first colonoscopy and compared to the others this proc room was not very clean. I found Dr Werth to have the empathy of a snail. I will not return to UR Gastroenterology.

While Dr Werth is a competent physician, he is not good at sharing details of a person's disease and treatment. Furthermore his office hours are prohibitive, seeing Crohns patients only one afternoon/wk. At each appointment I was made to wait for hours before seeing the Dr.

I found Dr Werth to be kind and caring. He put me at ease when explaining the colonoscopy procedure.I have referred 2 family members and a friend to him for same procedure and they all have the same opinion.
