Dr. Thomas T. Willis received his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed a general practice residency and served on active duty for five years in the US Army Dental Corps.
A retired USAR Major, he has practiced dentistry in Decatur since 1982. Dr. Willis is a member of the American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and the Wilson-Chanault Study Group. Dr. Willis currently serves as President of the Eighth Dental District and is a member of the Alabama Board of Dental Examiners. He is a member of the American Association of Dental Examiners and is on the Board of Directors of the Council of Interstate Testing Agency.
Dr. Willis has been a member of the Academy of General Dentistry since 1979. During this time he was awarded the Fellowship in 1987 and the Mastership in 2003 for his commitment to continuing education throughout his career in dentistry. The Fellowship …award is given to the dentist after completion of 600 hours of CE. The Mastership award is given to the dentist after completion of an additional 600 hours, of which 400 hours must be hands on participation courses. There are only a few hundred general dentists in the nation that have obtained the mastership level. He has been a member of the American and Alabama Dental Associations since 1978. He was awarded the Silver Certificate for 25 years of consecutive membership in 2003.
Dr. Willis is a member of First United Methodist Church of Decatur. He and his wife Jane have five children and five grandchildren. As a volunteer leader of the Boy Scouts of America, he has been awarded the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver Award and the Cross and Flame Award. He earned the Eagle Scout Award in 1965.
