Dr. Thomasena Laroya Ellison, MD

This doctor is extremely dismissive and has terrible bedside manner. Also this providers office is a hot mess. When it comes to getting very important forms done for their patients that have a huge impact on their job/livelihood they couldn’t care less. When you call to ask about the status of your forms the office blames Dr. Ellison and then when you ask Dr. Ellison she blames the office. It’s just a complete run around and adds more stress to whatever diagnosis you’re dealing with. Worst experience of my life. I will never step foot back into this place.

I had the worst experience with Dr. Ellison last year. At the height of COVID I waited a hour in a packed waiting room. Her staff is incompetent and were standing around while a long line of women waited to be checked in. The exam room was clean but looked old and outdated. When I finally saw Dr. Ellison she barely spoke to me and roughly performed my pelvic exam. She was more concerned with leaving than addressing my questions. Although not related to her capacity to perform her job, but she looked disheveled. Not the typical polished look you expect from a physician. Don’t waste your time and find another OB/GYN.

Dr Ellison has been my OBGYN for a number of years. I love her, but the wait time has always been long. But, I was appalled today that one of the people behind the desk was not wearing her mask properly, and there was NO social distancing, and no sterilization of the waiting room. I completely lost my patience when I was asked to take a hand scan that apparently wasn’t working properly. It seemed like complete incompetence. When it came time to fill out the paperwork, I noticed there were four people that had just walked into the waiting room. I apologize but felt I couldn’t wait. The patients are primarily women of color who as a community are greatly at risk for contracting Covid-19. This would be a time to limit patients and have a staff that represents Dr Ellison’s office properly.

I am not too sure how to begin this review, but when I compare my medical treatment with my doctors now, they are not comparable with Ellison’s treatment towards me as a young woman. I am now 40, but in my twenties she was my doctor. I recall getting many yeast infections and I could not understand why. I was not sexually active at that time. After a couple of visits over the issue she said to me that that’s what happens when you sleep with different partners. I stood quiet. I was not a confrontational person, but her comment was improper and unethical. I also recall another incident in which she performed a biopsy of my uterus because I had Pap smears that came back irregular. Years after my other gyn said to me that that was the equivalent of getting heart surgery because I complained of minor chest pain. He was alarmed. I recall her being ROUGH. Painful Pap smears. I recall her demeanor as dismissive with a superficial layer of care. I do wish I would have had the courage to speak… up, but I was naive. I have never forgotten her. Two children later my gynecologists have been wonderful. I hope she’s changed and that she doesn’t this to young woman now. It’s unethical and considered malpractice. If she reads this - You know it’s all true. Shame on you!

I saw Dr Ellison about a decade ago when I was in my twenties. She managed my routine care for a few years during which I did my annual exam with her. I remember her being very dismissive of my concerns. I also remember bleeding during my pap smear, and her reacting with disgust. I'm writing this now because I haven't forgotten the treatment by Dr. Ellison. I remember her staff being kind, and the general atmosphere of the office being very cozy. But I had a negative experience with this doctor, and she made me feel embarrassed. Looking back as a more self-assured older woman, I don't think this was okay.

DR. ELLISON IS THE WORST DOCTOR EVER. SHE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HER PATIENTS. HER OFFICE AND STAFF ARE THE WORST.SHE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE ABOUT DELIVERING BABIES. SHE IS THE WORST!! BE AWARE!

My last appointment I waited 3 hours and she spent less than 5 minutes with me. The front desk, nurse nor the doctor addressed this lack of respect for personal time. Otherwise Dr. Ellison is a nice Doctor.

I had been seeing Dr. Ellison for about 10 years. Unfortunately the wait has become so long that I just can't consult with her anymore. She is an excellent doctor, but has very little time.

To be honest, I've been with dr. Ellison for about 4 1/2 years,and always felt comfortable,the staff is proffetional, never had a problem with follow-ups,apt.the office is clean,I would recommend her to anyone.the only thing I could say is the wait is usually about an hour, but is because she's the only doctor...in the office. To this day iam still a patient, and a very satisfied one.!!!!thank you

I have been looking for a GYN for months. She accepts my Insurance so I took a chance, even though I had to travel to see her. NOT WORTH IT. She has the bedside manner of my pinky finger. The staff was unprofessional and the exam room was not clean. As for Dr. Ellison, I got the feeling she'd rather be doing something else. Obviously experienced, but not compassionate. Very unfriendly. On to the next!
