Dr. Tiffany L. Chan, OD

Dr. Tiffany L. Chan proudly represents the second generation of Chan Family Optometrists! Following her parents’ footsteps, she graduated from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry. After optometry school, she completed her residency at the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center in New York where she cared for patients with macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, traumatic brain injuries, and neurologic vision impairment.Dr. Chan then completed the Lions Vision Rehabilitation Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine with focus on low vision rehabilitation of patients with chronic vision impairment. Following her fellowship training, she joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, where she split her time between clinical instruction, lecturing and research.In addition to providing eye care at Chan Family Optometry, Dr. Chan continues her …contributions in academia serving as the Chief of the Low Vision Service at California Pacific Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology in San Francisco, CA. She also continues involvement in research at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in San Francisco as well as collaborating with colleagues around the country. During her training, Dr. Chan received the Corrine Engwall Award for clinical excellence in infant/toddler clinic, the Bernhall N. Thal, OD, VSP Excellence in Primary Care Award, and the Louise L. Sloan Research Grant Award for her work in the comparison of physician estimates of rehabilitation potential to low vision rehabilitation outcomes. She has a special interest in working with patients with chronic vision impairment to maximize their remaining vision and help them adapt to vision changes. Dr. Chan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, has lectured nationally and internationally and has several publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Chan was inducted into the University of California, Davis Cal Aggie Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012 for her collegiate accomplishments in gymnastics.
