Summary

I had a great relationship with my pediatrician and as a result, I had thoughts of becoming a pediatrician as early as grade school. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of the growth and development of my patients, from birth through early adulthood.

I see myself in a partnership with parents to help guide them in giving the best care possible to their infant. As the child grows towards adolescence and independence, the partnership expands to include the adolescent. It is always my hope that my contacts with adolescents will help them make better choices as they begin their separation from their parents.

Many health problems have their roots in lifestyle, and my focus is always prevention. Safety, nutrition, healthy habits and values are essential ingredients in raising children. It is always easier to work on those early in life than it is to pick up the pieces later on.

Before coming in for a visit, I suggest that parents write down the main question or questions and hand them to me at the beginning of the visit. That way, I know what their priorities are. Most problems unfold over time like a story and knowing the symptoms and timing during each visit also helps to me to see all sides of a problem.

Our Pediatric department offers evening and weekend appointments. Children do not always pick the most convenient times to get sick!

My wife and I are both from Wisconsin and we have been married for 22 years. We have three children, and all live at home.

My volunteer activities include my role as scoutmaster of a Boy Scout troop and various church activities, including teaching confirmation classes. When I am not involved in volunteer activities, my family enjoys camping, canoeing and spending time at our cabin.
