Dr. Timothy James Barounis, MD

I met Dr. Barounis, while I was hospitalized for a long series of tests ordered by a different physician. Dr. Barounis is a hospitalist; he visited me, in his role of overseeing medical students. I've been chronically ill, for many long years. This was the first time I'd ever experienced a physician actually observing me intently, rather than behaving distracted or dismissive. Never has he presented as though his time or insights are more important than his patients. His medical and research integrity with his keen presence of mind inspired me to switch PCPs, to work with him: "with," because Dr. Barounis respects patient rights, and welcomes our knowledge of our own bodies. In visiting so many top-ranked hospitals with "best in field" specialists, I'd found far more arrogant physicians than actual help. Dr. Barounis actually listens to patients; he doesn't interrupt; he's serious, in his attentiveness, and acts accordingly. On several occasions, he assuaged my fears, by simply having… a look, and immediately making a correct diagnosis. The Big Note: I've seen literally hundreds of physicians, throughout the country, and Dr. Barounis is the first practitioner of any kind, to whom I've actually said, "I trust you."
