Dr. Carlson received his DDS in 1978 and MSD in Operative Dentistry (adult restorative dentistry), both from Indiana University School of Dentistry. A full-time professor, Dr. Carlson directs one of the Comprehensive Care dental clinics at the IU Dental School in Indianapolis. He has also maintained a part-time private dental practice on the north side of Indianapolis for over 20 years. Dr. Carlson’s interests for his private patients are similar to his university responsibilities, centering on adult preventive, restorative, and esthetic dentistry; and invisible orthodontics.

Dr. and Mrs. Carlson have two grown children, one living in Chicago and the other in Minneapolis. In their spare time, the Carlsons enjoy traveling, hiking, …bicycling, kayaking, and motorcycling. The Carlsons worked in a dental/medical mission clinic in Haiti for two years before their children were born and continue to be involved in international projects. During university spring breaks, they have lead teams of dental students providing dental care to underserved patients in Haiti and Ecuador.
