Dr. Timothy Joseph Fairbanks, MD

I was referred to Dr. Fairbanks because my pre-pubescent child has a breast lump. He immediately mentioned surgery, which terrified my son...so Dr. suggested he wait in the waiting room. He said there is no way to know what we are dealing with unless we operate. I had an appointment with an Endo for a blood work up to check hormone’s and all was normal. Dr assured me he would communicate with me on next steps. Endo did not suggest surgery, so I called Dr Fairbanks to discuss how to proceed. Nurse promised a phone called directly from Dr on 3 different occasions and I am yet to hear from him. I am left feeling confused & anxious as my child’s breast lump is continuing to grow in size. My next step is to try to contact another dr, but I’m not even sure where to begin, as I don’t know what specialty dr to turn to. I’m very disappointed with the way our situation was handled.

I was 6 months pregnant when my husband and I found out our son had Gastroschesis and would need surgery after birth. We were worried, sad, and frightened. We met with Dr. Fairbanks about a month later and he explained all the details about the surgery and recovery process. The day we had our son Dr. Fairbanks performed surgery and everything went very well. We were in the NICU for 7 weeks. We are very grateful to God and to the team at Rady's for helping our son. Dr. Fairbanks is very knowledgeable, very professional, and most importantly very CARING! He took his time to explain procedures with us, he made daily visits and gave us status reports, and he always talked to us in a manner that made us feel important and not rushed. My son is now 4 years old, he is a happy healthy bossy little boy. We are very thankful. I pray for Dr. Fairbanks and all the Rady's team. I have so many positive things to say about how they care for children and how supportive they are to families. For any… parent who may be needing some encouraging words: Rady's is a wonderful hospital, Dr. Fairbanks is absolutely capable, trustworthy, and kind,. and you are not alone. I met many parents in our 7 week stay at the NICU and some of them have become close friends. All is well. Keep the faith.

Dr. Fairbanks is simply amazing! He is a brilliant talented surgeon. He is supportive, caring and beyond everything else, trustworthy! Our 2 yr old son was diagnosed with a lung malformation when I was 20 weeks pregnant. As a worried mom, I researched the malformation and all of the issues our son could face. He was asymptomatic since birth, however, he could face reoccurring pneumonia and/or other lung infections as he grew older. Dr. Fairbanks’s recommendation was for preventative removal of the lower right lobe of his lung at age 2. Dr. Fairbanks sat with us for extended amounts of time, over multiple visits, explaining every aspect of our son’s issue and of the surgery. He was patient and supportive when answering our magnitude of questions. When asked, he encouraged a second opinion so we could feel more comfortable with our decision. He never rushed or pushed us. We were able to take our time in deciding. I conducted more research and found a specialist on our son’s malformation.… Dr. Fairbanks personally called the other doctor explaining the situation and then personally called me. After the second opinion, we met with Dr. Fairbanks and scheduled surgery. Knowing our anxiety with anesthesia, he called an anesthesiologist that he personally knew and trusted to assist with the surgery. Dr. Fairbanks performed the surgery thoracoscopically (key hole) and we were out of the hospital within 4 nights. His surgically skills are impeccable and his mind is exceptional. This man is truly gifted and talented. All of the nurses agreed and reassured us that he is THE best. As anxious parents, trying to choose a surgeon for your baby and trust that your decision is correct, you can be confident in choosing Dr. Fairbanks as the far best choice for your child. Our son was safe in his hands and Dr. Fairbanks will be the only one that we trust with any future surgeries for either one of our children. We cannot thank Dr. Fairbanks enough or say enough good things about him, his staff or our experience. He is truly simply amazing and you can feel confident with your child in his care!

Great doctor, worth the wait for our scheduled appointment. He has a great bedside manner. Our daughters surgery went very well.
