Dr. Timothy James Goblirsch

I was seen by Dr. Goblirsch at the Scheie Eye Institute for severe dry eye and was disappointed that my condition was not treated with more urgency. I had made it clear that my condition was debilitating: I was in immense pain, feeling hopeless, and on medical leave because I was no longer able to work. I was sent away with instructions to use warm compresses and over the counter eye drops -- which I had been doing to that point with no relief. As for follow-up, I was slated to be seen by general ophthalmology again three months later; when I pleaded to be seen sooner, and by a dry eye expert, to get the care I knew I needed, Dr. Goblirsch assured me that there was no way I could get an appointment any earlier. Through self advocacy, I was able to secure an appointment with one of the directors of Penn's Dry Eye & Ocular Surface Center that very month. Now, several months and many expensive treatments later, I am finally getting my eye pain under control, but I shudder to think where… I'd be had I delayed my care. I would urge Dr. Goblirsch to treat severe dry eye with the urgency it demands, and in general to show more empathy towards his patients.
